Bring your music further to life by displaying your lyrics

Adding lyrics to songs on digital music platforms is beneficial for fans and artists alike. Lyrics are precious — artists spend a lot of time and energy crafting the perfect words to accompany their music. Apps and services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon, Tidal, and Google enhance the listening experience by including lyrics.

If a service supports synced lyrics, then listeners using that service will also expect to see your lyrics synced to the song.

Fast forward to:

Why should you submit lyrics to multiple lyric databases?

The world's leading music data companies are currently Musixmatch, Genius, and LyricFind. None of these companies' repositories contain all of the song lyrics in the marketplace. Each repository will have gaps, but collectively they have the world's largest coverage of song lyrics.

The majority of popular websites, as well as major streaming services, rely on Musixmatch and/or LyricFind as their primary source of lyrics. A number of services use Genius lyrics as an additional data source.

Just like in any market, things can change quickly in the music industry. Only a few years ago, Spotify relied on Genius for lyrics; now, they rely on Musixmatch. Because of the way services use and switch between lyrics repositories, it is critical for you, as an artist, to have 100% correct lyrics in all of the major lyric databases. That currently means that you need to ensure 100% correct lyrics in Genius, Musixmatch, and LyricFind.

Can you imagine the disappointment when poorly transcribed / best-effort lyrics in one of these sources actually supersedes your verified version of the lyrics, because the repository that you are updating is (currently) not being used as the primary source for displaying lyrics!

It is relatively easy for artists to publish lyrics to Musixmatch and Genius, but each submission takes time and there is a learning curve. Independent / unsigned artists will need an official partner (such as ChristianDance.eu) to submit into the LyricFind systems. Partners use special interfaces to submit lyrics to LyricFind. There is a DIY-process via email that anyone can use to submit to LyricFind. Expect delays and realize that someone will manually verify the submission, and correct it with what they believe you are singing / saying...

Artists Can Earn Revenue by Publishing Lyrics Videos

Publishers of videos on Youtube and Vevo can earn revenue from advertising. As you know, advertising is shown prior to the music video. The catch... you need to set up accounts and publish videos in accordance with the guidelines. As a 'small' publisher you will also need to meet requirements regarding the number of viewers, followers, etc. before you qualify to receive advertising revenue. There are a number of services that already have agreements in place with YouTube and Vevo, and offer artists a way to benefit from their arrangement. The key message here is that you shouldn't ignore this potential revenue stream. Do your homework and think things through. There are opportunities!

Did you know? Artists that publish Lyric Videos have seen a 15% increase in YouTube subscribers since posting their first Lyric Video. Many of them have not posted any other content during that time!

How To Get Your Own Lyric Videos

There are a number of ways to create a Lyric Video.

  1. You can invest in software and literally Do-It-Yourself on a PC

  2. Use online services to create lyric videos

  3. Some distributors offer to automatically generate & publish lyric videos. Check if your distributor is offering this service.

  4. Use LyricFind to generate lyric videos... and the good news is that these video's are FREE to create and publish (there is a revenue-sharing model)

LyricFind

LyricFind does more than 'just' publish lyrics to a number of platforms / services. Among other things, LyricFind has also been generating videos for Labels, Large Catalogues, Distributors, and Platforms. These videos are automatically published on YouTube and Vevo.

Good news! In Q3 2022, the LyricFind video service will be open to independent artists. Independent artists will have a solution to create branded videos that use custom backgrounds, fonts, and visualizers to animate a song’s lyrics in seconds.

LyricFind’s Lyric Videos are completely free to create! You split the revenue with LyricFind for the number of times a video is viewed. As an artist, you also benefit this way from the higher revenue that LyricFind has negotiated per view on YouTube and Vevo.

In summary

Many of these new & innovative opportunities only come into reach when your lyrics are in the right databases! That is why we focus on multiple databases when we process lyrics... and we believe the same approach is valid for artists.
