Lola Farinu - Only Hope (CCM)

Lola Farinu - Only Hope
Lola Farinu has released a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called Only Hope.

Lola Farinu writes: "I wrote the words to this song while in line at my college registrar's office to pay overdue fees (after requesting several fee deferrals). While sitting there, I realized that God was never late and I could always trust Him, and so I began to pen these lyrics in my Gmail notes:
'I'd be the first to shout that you'll be my only hope
That day I first believed that you were my only hope
Then several examples in scripture began to drop in my heart, and I wrote - the woman with the issue of blood, Zaccheus climbing on a tree, beggar screaming son of David have mercy on me e.t.c and that was how this song came about.'

When I recorded the song, I didn't want it to seem like just my experience so others can be encouraged, so I featured two people who understand the experience of trusting God endlessly in the midst of tough experiences and situations;  one of which is my sibling.
I choose to release this song because I felt I had to and because I believe it is the truth based on Gods word and so I expect it to set people free from the trap we fall into as Christians where we search for our answers/solutions everywhere else but from God; forgetting God is an ever-present help. And although the help may not come how we prefer, God is guaranteed to bring us to an expected end . The song also aligns well with the theme of the album which is based on proverbs 4:18 -where our path as the righteous shines bright unto a perfect day which means our Hope in Jesus will not be dashed away. Its hope is the real deal and we can trust that till the end.

I desire to see individuals and groups of people singing this song with hope and joy being stirred up for situations that are weighing them down. I also want them to sing it when things don’t seem to work out remembering that God is still there and they can trust Him even when it doesn’t look like it."

Lyrics:

I'd be the first to shout
That You'd be my only hope
That day I first believed
That You were my only hope
Just like the woman with the issue of blood
You are my only hope
Zacchaeus climbing high on the tree
Cause You were his only hope
Beggar screaming Son of David have mercy on me
Cause You were his only hope
And forever as long as I live
You'll be my only hope
I'd be the first to shout
That You'd be my only hope
That day I first believed
That You were my only hope
See I've been changed by Your grace
Slowly I see when I move in that pace
Amazing the way that You love me for days
It's crazy that You would even die in my place
Die in my place
So I say only hope, only hope
Yes I rate it only hope, only hope
I believe it yep so I scream at the top of my lungs
Till the day that I finally see it
I see that you hope in the grace
I see that you hope in the faith
I see that you running the race
Obtaining the prize for the thing that is great
My Master, the King over of all
Redeemed all mankind from the fall
You love us regardless, love that is reckless
Always on time when I call
I'd be the first to shout
That You'd be my only hope
That day I first believed
That You were my only hope
I'd be the first to shout
That You'd be my only hope
That day I first believed
That You were my only hope
You are the way, the truth
The light, the hope
That leads me to my future
You are the anchor of my soul Lord
In You I can trust God
You are the way, the truth
The light, the hope
That leads me to my future
You are the anchor of my soul Lord
In You I can trust God
I'd be the first to shout
That You'll be my only hope
That day I first believed
That You were my only hope
You are only hope
You are only hope
You are only hope
I'll be the first to
I'll be the first to shout

"Guide Me (O, Thou Great Jehovah) / Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" by Ezra Worship Initiative – Ancient Wisdom, Fresh Waves

I'm sitting in traffic, Spotify on shuffle, listening to my collection of new releases. That's when the song "Guide Me (O, Thou Great Jehovah) / Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" by Ezra Worship Initiative starts to play. The song starts with a revamp of a 280-year-old hymn "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah", and then beautifully transitions to the chorus of Hillsong's "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)". This medley made my heart do a little cartwheel!  The hymn "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah" (originally "Arglwydd, arwain trwy'r anialwch" in Welsh) by William Williams (a Welsh Methodist preacher) was inspired by the biblical story of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt. Williams wrote this in 1745 as a plea to God for guidance while traveling through life's wilderness. A 280-year-old plea that is still very relevant for us today.  "I am weak, but Thou art mighty // hold me with thy powerful hand," a thought that ...

'Lonely Dirt Road' by Dax: A Journey to Solitude and God

Dax's 'Lonely Dirt Road' is a conversation that Dax has with himself and God. Dax shares his journey of turning mental health walks into healing solitary drives. As you listen, you can almost feel the cruise, where it's just you, your thoughts, and God.  The chorus is so relatable: 'When I need space, that's where I go, a place to escape that nobody knows.' What do you do when life's pressures stack high? Do you also have a space where you can let go? That lonely dirt road that Dax sings about symbolizes solitude, but it is also an incredible opportunity for connecting with God.  Dax's honesty is raw and relatable. 'I didn't want my family to see me cry… dealing with the pressure of trying to provide.' There are times when we all put on a smile to hide how challenging situations may be. Like his father, Dax says that he finds peace on this lonely road, where challenges become opportunities to grow. This shows the core of our faith: that...

"Heartbeat" by Laura Leighe - Dancing in Worship

Here's a song that's more or less been stuck in my head since I heard it. It's called 'Heartbeat' by Laura Leighe and is what Laura calls a "reggaeton-influenced Christian pop duet" that's all about surrendering to God's rhythm and dancing in worship, no matter what life throws your way.  The lyrics remind me of two scriptures: "Praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe."  - Psalm 150:4 (NIV) and "Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might."  - 2 Samuel 6:14 (NIV). Maybe I'm a bit prejudiced because the song reminds us of our own thoughts when we founded "Christian Dance" years ago and picked a name. Focusing on music that allows us to feel joy and causes us (our hearts) to dance for God, a pure form of worship that we know is pleasing to God. The lyrics are about surrendering our control and trusting in God's plan. Laura sings, "I bet you f...
