"Saved" by Cody & Brody: Faith Beyond Four Walls

Growing up in a small town where faith is measured by church attendance can feel very restrictive. Cody & Brody's "Saved" challenges that narrow perspective with refreshing authenticity. It challenges us to reflect on how relationships with God (or in fact with anyone) can be defined by four walls. There must be more to a relationship than that!

Cody & Brody - SavedThe idea for the song came from a conversation with a small-town preacher about the fact that loyalty to God doesn't require loyalty to a single church building. Instead of judgment, it's all about grace, His grace. Sadly, so many people feel caught between their faith and institutional expectations… especially the human expectations that are not grounded in His teachings.

The song opens with "I don't wear my Sunday best, or sit in a pew like all the rest." Yet the Cody & Brody connect with God through nature's own cathedral - on dirt roads, beneath the open skies, in the thunder, and the songs that the birds sing. The lyrics of this song don't rebel against faith; it opens our eyes to the fact that there are many ways to grow and express faith. Some people need symbols and rituals to connect with God, while others use the power of music, nature, reading, or maybe other means to help them focus on and grow their relationship with God. There is no one-size-fits-all type of faith, and there is no fixed set of parameters to measure the quality of a relationship or faith that one has. Faith is personal, just like relationships, and only God can read your heart.

"Yeah, I'm saved by the light of a midnight moon, washed clean in a creek-bank rain." His salvation doesn't have a single address or is determined by an institutional formula. Whether you find God in stained glass, starlight, or the lyrics of a song, all that really matters is having an authentic connection with God. It's that connection that places a desire in your heart to live a life that reflects your faith.

Do you feel the need to get someone's acknowledgement that your praise or faith is authentic? If so, then this song is for you! May this song remind you that there are no pre-defined ways to find God, and there are more roads that lead us to God.

'Fighting With My Demons' by Joe Nester: Encapsulating the Resilient Battle of Faith

Fighting With My Demons' by Joe Nester is a powerful Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) song that confronts a universal and challenging issue — the battle with inner demons. Nestled within the soothing melody and catchy rhythm are impactful lyrics conveying despair, struggle, and ultimate redemption. As the song begins, 'All my life, I’ve been battling with my demons,' listeners are instantly embraced with understanding, compassion, and know they are not alone in their struggles. The profound lyrics echo the pain of life's battles and the weariness they create, yet they’re also filled with hope. We are reminded that even while we are lost and conflicted, God's presence becomes our refuge. As we heed the voice of Nester, immersed in sincerity and conviction, the lyrics resonate, 'So fill me with your fire. Until I feel it burning bright and all the darkness turns to light.' It is a plaintive cry for God's sanctifying fire — His divine intervention to ov...

Today, in part 1, we focus on the foundation needed to build a larger audience/fanbase, where to focus, and your place in a bigger picture. Next week, in part 2, we will focus on your online hub, ways to attract more visitors to your online hub, and being more than a musician.   Why do some Christian artists have millions of monthly streams on the streaming platforms, while other great artists struggle to get more than a few thousand monthly streams? Many Christian Artists struggle to reach new listeners. Marketing music was never easy, but quite a few artists (and even agents/distributors) are not using all of the possibilities that are already available. What saddens me is that many Christian artists only scratch the surface of their music marketing possibilities. DIY-platforms, such...

Josephine Grace - Higher Than the Heavens (CCM)

Josephine Grace has released a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called Higher Than the Heavens. Josephine shared her story behind this song:  Some songs come quickly, some come slowly. This one was definitely the latter! It was way back in 2011 when I made a home demo of the first version of this song - it was moodier with completely different chords, melody and lyrics - and then it sat on the shelf (or more literally, on an external hard drive full of archived files) until the back end of last year. I’ve done some studying online with Hillsong College this past year and a half and at some point I’d explored what being wholehearted towards God means. Bits of the old song (it was called ‘I Will’ at that point), written quite directly from Psalm 108, started coming back to me beginning with Psalm 108:1 (NIV) “My heart, O God, is steadfast”.  I followed the melody in my mind to the chorus based on Psalm 108:4 (NIV) “For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your fa...
