"All Praise (Great Are You Lord)" by Aaron Goodhew: Remembering His Sacrifice, Embracing His Reign


Aaron Goodhew's song, "All Praise (Great Are You Lord)," is a reminder of the ultimate hope that fuels our faith. Aaron shares that the inspiration for this song came to him while studying Revelation, specifically chapter 7. He was moved to tears by the promise of believers surrounding God's throne for eternity, experiencing pure joy, and free from all suffering. Just look around you at all of the suffering around the world, as well as the suffering close to home. Realize that we're just seeing a glimpse of all the suffering that is happening.

Aaron explains, "The hope of that future in Christ is the fuel that drives believers every day to lay down their lives in pursuit of Jesus." This song is written with the desire that it will stir people to lift their eyes from their current circumstances and look up to Him who is seated in all authority. 

The song reminds us of Jesus walking "the road that we deserved," carrying "the cross that we had earned." Thankfully, the story didn't end there. His resurrection was met with a heavenly roar of praise as the stone was rolled away. His victory over death is the very foundation of our hope. He is the promise that assures us of a future where, "For endless days we will see your face… With no more pain and every fear erased."

This song is an invitation to embrace that eternal perspective, to embrace a future that is worth living for and singing about! May this song touch your heart and help you to lift your eyes and voice to the One who is worthy of all our praise.

Background:

2 years ago, my church was walking through the book of Revelation, and when we got to chapter 7, I was floored. The reality that Christian’s will surround the throne for all eternity in fullness of joy and life, with no more tears or pain, singing Holy Holy Holy is the lord - it moved me to tears. The hope of that future in Christ is the fuel that drives believers every day to lay down their lives in pursuit of Jesus. I hope and pray this song stirs people to lift their eyes from their current circumstances, and set them upon the one who is seated in all authority.
