(by Jasper Tan) "Come Alive" by JONATHYN is an uplifting CCM-Pop track that talks about spiritual renewal, grace, and finding purpose through our Christian faith. The song dwells on the classic darkness-to-light narrative, which is a common theme for those who are struggling with their Faith. The song begins by describing our state of being in a spiritual exhaustion, mirroring that feeling like we are breathing lead. It also speaks about our life that at times feels like it is dead, despite being alive in this world. This happens when we keep on making the wrong turn, and these frequent mistakes become our frustration. And in a twist of irony, sometimes we are being led to deeper depression, especially if we are clutching for hope, yet this is devoid of a firm foundation. And the chorus is where we are reminded that it is only through God and his gift of hope, which gives us new life and makes us feel much more alive. This is the emotional peak of the song, where the song transitions from struggle to celebration.
We are redeemed when we believe in God, even if we feel like we are not worthy of his redemption. But because of God's love for us, he will always pick us up from the "ashes" and give us new life. How can we be transformed from our brokenness to become someone much more beautiful as a human being? Where there was once bitterness, we are drawn to embrace freedom with God's grace. Yet we wonder how this could be, but it only takes a leap of Faith to accept Jesus in our lives and acknowledge his role as the giver of life.
"Come Alive" is a straightforward and sincere pop-worship song. It doesn't gloss over the reality of feeling "stuck" or depressed. It makes the eventual "stepping into life" feel more earned and relatable. It's a highly recommended song for listeners who enjoy contemporary pop worship music.

Background:
I created this song using an electric guitar loop as a base then I built off of that. It took me several days to create the beat then I wrote and sang the lyrics. My favorite parts are the verses. The theme is about how God gives us new life when we are torn down.
