Grace is stronger than the grudge
“Forgiving You For Me” by Lauren Gruwell is a song written by Pat Melfi, and it’s the fourth release for Lauren’s upcoming album. The theme of the song touches a truth many people seem to want to avoid or just don’t realize. Forgiveness isn’t about the other person at all. Lauren sings about carrying someone’s words “like stones in my chest,” replaying memories that stole her rest. Sound familiar? Most of us have held a grudge, convinced it gave us control. But that is control built on bitterness, and that negativity will always cause it to collapse. That negativity is like a bad spot on an apple. If you don’t take it out, it will continue to affect everything around it…
The song captures the moment when holding on stops feeling like justice and starts feeling like a prison. Then comes the whisper: “This isn’t justice, this is your soul.” That’s the shift we need to make. To stop the negative energy from spiralling through us and contaminating our heart and mind.
Grace doesn’t wait for an apology. Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Notice the order. God forgave first, before anyone earned it, before anyone said sorry. That’s the pattern we’re called to follow: to forgive others, not because what they did didn’t hurt us, but because grace already covered it. By forgiving first, we end the negativity it causes inside us.
What would change in your life if you stopped waiting for someone else to make the first move? Forgiveness isn’t pretending the wound never happened. It’s refusing to let that wound keep writing your story. Every day you carry resentment is a day you hand someone else the pen. Take the pen back. Place the weight of what happened down at the foot of the throne, right where Lauren says she leaves it. Freedom starts the moment you decide the past no longer gets a vote in your future.
Listen to “Forgiving You For Me”, and let it walk you through what release really feels like. “I’m not forgetting, but I’m finally free.”
