Daniel Horton - Sycamore (CCM)


Daniel Horton is a talented, and less known, Christian musician who has just released a new song called 'Sycamore.' This song is about letting go of things that don't build us up and focusing entirely on God. It is based on the story of Zacchaeus, a dishonest tax collector, who climbed into a Sycamore tree and was called down by Jesus. He then sold all his possessions and gave back four times what he had stolen.

The lyrics speak of the struggles we all face in life, from the subtle ways the world can take us to the things we hold on to that keep us from truly knowing God.

Daniel Horton - SycamoreThe song begins with the verse, 'Who knew the world would take me in the most subtle way? My heart's been torn to pieces, I can't seem to put it in place.' This verse immediately captures my attention as it speaks to the struggles that I believe we all face in life. We often don't realize how the world is taking us until it's too late.

The chorus is particularly powerful as it speaks of letting go of everything we hold on to and focusing solely on God. 'Father make me now, all I never was. Father take me down from this Sycamore stump. I hate everything I'm findin' about the hand you hold. Take all the gold and glory, I just wanna know You, Lord.'

Daniel sings about the idea that from time to time we all need to come down our own Sycamore tree, just like Zacchaeus did, and give everything to God. Whether it's money, friends, work, or school, so many things can get in the way of what is truly important.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Daniel Horton further develops his talent. If you're a Christian music lover, I highly recommend you give 'Sycamore' a listen. It's sure to be an uplifting and inspiring experience.

"Forever" by Randy Wade: The God Who Has Always Been

The King who reigns forever also reigns over you. Before a single star burned in the sky, before the first mountain rose from the earth, God was.
