"Beautiful Savior" by Rorie: From ER Room Visit to Worship Song

"Beautiful Savior" by Rorie is a heartfelt conversation with God that was born during a visit to the ER at 3:30 am on Easter morning. Rorie was getting help for an asthma episode, and while waiting, Rorie reflected on the paradox of pain and hope: "It was a dark night and day waiting for answers," she penned, echoing her own vulnerability.

Rorie - Beautiful SaviorRorie shares, "I was sitting there thinking about how Jesus knew what was going to happen to Him and yet still chose to die for us, even while we were so undeserving. He went through unimaginable suffering and paid the price for our sins so that no matter where we have been or what we have done, we can have new life and eternal life through believing in and following after Him. All because of who He is and what He has done!"

As the truth of the Gospel flooded her heart, she realized that she couldn't stay silent about it, even though her voice couldn't sing. She continues, "Not only did He pay the price for us, but He conquered death and rose again!" The words for the song continued to flow onto her paper.

The sound of the cello, played by Gaylyn Foto, is a beautiful companion to Rorie's vocals and amplifies the message of the song. Her lyrics, "You paid the price for all… dying for me // And rising again," point our focus to the wonderful rescue mission of Christ, His rescue mission to save us so we one day may return Home to His embrace. This song isn't a retelling of the Easter story; it's about our story and invites us to stand still and reflect on His grace. "Once so far from You // By grace we now draw near," describing the journey we all go through in life and how beauty rises from ashes through His grace. May this song remind you that God is there for you, even in life's ER moments, and that the light of His resurrection changes everything.

"Hiding Place (Live)" by DBU Chapel Worship: Forgiven, Covered, and Free

How often do you hear worship songs being sung live in the comforts of your day-to-day living? For sure, there are a dime a dozen. Some you commonly share with the person next to you, featuring songs by popular Christian Artists. But there's a certain form of unique sincerity when one discovers a worship song that is yet to break through to a larger audience. This is how the song "Hiding Place" by DBU Chapel Worship featuring Olivia-Grace McKern felt like when I first listened to the song. It felt like a new testimony being told, of one's dedication to find God and remain in his presence.  Taking root from Psalm 32, the song is a collaboration of Olivia with a host of songwriters from the DBU Chapel Worship. Enriching her experience as a songwriter and moving her through the songwriting process. In perhaps a reflection of what the song eventually became, it wasn't so that Olivia conveniently hid behind the DBU Chapel Worship songwriters/musicians. This song is a c...

'Lonely Dirt Road' by Dax: A Journey to Solitude and God

Dax's 'Lonely Dirt Road' is a conversation that Dax has with himself and God. Dax shares his journey of turning mental health walks into healing solitary drives. As you listen, you can almost feel the cruise, where it's just you, your thoughts, and God.  The chorus is so relatable: 'When I need space, that's where I go, a place to escape that nobody knows.' What do you do when life's pressures stack high? Do you also have a space where you can let go? That lonely dirt road that Dax sings about symbolizes solitude, but it is also an incredible opportunity for connecting with God.  Dax's honesty is raw and relatable. 'I didn't want my family to see me cry… dealing with the pressure of trying to provide.' There are times when we all put on a smile to hide how challenging situations may be. Like his father, Dax says that he finds peace on this lonely road, where challenges become opportunities to grow. This shows the core of our faith: that...
