"Hiding Place (Live)" by DBU Chapel Worship: Forgiven, Covered, and Free


How often do you hear worship songs being sung live in the comforts of your day-to-day living? For sure, there are a dime a dozen. Some you commonly share with the person next to you, featuring songs by popular Christian Artists. But there's a certain form of unique sincerity when one discovers a worship song that is yet to break through to a larger audience. This is how the song "Hiding Place" by DBU Chapel Worship featuring Olivia-Grace McKern felt like when I first listened to the song. It felt like a new testimony being told, of one's dedication to find God and remain in his presence. 

DBU Chapel Worship - Hiding Place (Live)Taking root from Psalm 32, the song is a collaboration of Olivia with a host of songwriters from the DBU Chapel Worship. Enriching her experience as a songwriter and moving her through the songwriting process. In perhaps a reflection of what the song eventually became, it wasn't so that Olivia conveniently hid behind the DBU Chapel Worship songwriters/musicians. This song is a collaborative product that reflected her struggles during her "down season" and then her eventual liberation from it with the unified songwriting process that felt cathartic. 

It is Olivia's hope that the product that came to be, the song "Hiding Place," will also touch and bless anyone who is in need of God's Love and Grace. For every worry, for every challenge, and for every down season we have, trust that God will always be there for us. That his love will always be a Hiding Place that we can all come home to. To recharge, to heal, to find peace. And with God in our lives, it is more than enough to survive in this world that is full of challenges.

"Man I Used To Be" by Dax: Half the Weight, Double the Faith

"Man I Used To Be" by Dax is a very personal song. Dax had promised himself that he wouldn't release new music until he'd stayed sober for six months, the time he needed to get his priorities straight and clear his mind. "Man I Used To Be" is the sound of his first clean breath, life with God by his side. Dax lays it bare: "Trials and tribulations, all my past trauma," he acknowledges, along with "generational curses from daddy and mama," and the "addictions that clouded my eyes." "Sometime" by Robert Peterson and The Crusade: God always finds us

(by Jasper Tan) In the tradition of our favorite CCM rock anthems from the 90's and early 2000's (the Jars of Clay and Vertical Horizon come to mind), Robert Peterson and The Crusade's recently released single, called "Sometime," is a joyful experience to listen to. This is a rock song that speaks about waiting and being prepared for the right moment to be called by Jesus. It comes from a place where the miracle and the sudden arrival of God in our lives are always unpredictable. But when we are ready, God will find us. The lyricism of the song is written in such a way that there are double meanings and vague messages. I understand the artistic decision to write this in such a manner.
