"When I Saw The Light" by Tyler Philip Ratcliffe: Folk, Grace, and the Moment Everything Changes

“When I Saw The Light” captures something painfully familiar — the trap that routine can bring. Tyler Philip Ratcliffe wrote this folk anthem as a follow-up to “This Little Light of Mine,” drawing on his bluegrass roots and the spirit of Bill Monroe’s classic to tell a story many will recognize in themselves.

Tyler Philip Ratcliffe - When I Saw The Light

The verses don’t sugarcoat it. “Same faces, same mistakes, same places // Promise that I change it all tomorrow” — the trap we need to be aware of… The routine masquerading as life. But Ratcliffe doesn’t leave the listener there. The chorus lifts everything: “I traded fake for something honest // Finally doing something right.” That’s the turning point!

What makes this song land is its honesty about the moment before a breakthrough. When numbness sets in, when you’ve exhausted every other option — that’s when the light (His light) breaks through. Ratcliffe captures the surprise of grace: “I wasn’t looking for religion // Wasn’t searching for the truth.” Nobody ever is. And yet...

This track is a guide for anyone who feels stuck in a cycle that they can’t name and can’t escape. Go ahead and listen to it. Share it. Let its message show you a way out of the trap of routine. “I never knew I needed You so bad, till I saw the light.”

(Related scripture: John 8:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Psalm 40:2)

Background:

“When I Saw The Light” is the follow up folk anthem to my most recent “This Little Light Of Mine”. Inspired by Bill Monroe’s I Saw The Light, and drawing from my upbringing in bluegrass, I wanted to bring a new twist to an old familiar track. At the beginning of this write, as I jumped into the verses, I wanted to tell a story; One that I had heard time and again. The feeling of being trapped in a place that you don’t want to be, but has become the default.

I wanted the chorus to provide the same lifting of the eyes as the original. I really hope this track can be a beacon of light to others, who may recognize themselves in the story and realize that Jesus can be the solution to breaking free from routines and addictions. Jesus can bring them into a life that is lived with eternity in mind. I am honored to present, When I Saw The Light.

Citipointe Worship - Giants / How Good The Lord Is - Live (CCM)

Do the giants in your life have you feeling overwhelmed? Do you suffer from fear, confusion, or affliction? If this is the case, this song may bring you comfort and encouragement. Citipointe Worship's 'Giants / How Good The Lord Is - Live' is a powerful worship song that celebrates the victories that God has won on our behalf and serves as a reminder of His presence in our lives. The lyrics encourage you to be strong in the face of adversity, knowing that the Lord is already there by your side. The song praises God for shutting the lion's mouth and leading the captives out. It is the same God who is with us now, and with Him by our side, we need not fear evil... we need not fear those giants. The chorus emphasizes that victory was won when Jesus died and rose again, and that we can be strong and persevere because He has gone before us. This song reminds us that we will not be crushed and should not give up when we encounter our own giants. Regardless of how enormous the...

Lédylce - Tu es tout pour moi (CCM) - translated: "You are everything to me"

Lédylce has released a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called 'Tu es tout pour moi' ("You are everything to me"). It is such an honor that Lédylce contacted us with this song. A song about the relationship between a child and their (heavenly) Father. The message of this song is subtle, but it is a message we can fully grasp once we realize who our loving Father is and what His grace entails for us.   Lédylce hopes to reach as many people as possible with her first project as an independent artist. The next songs she plans to record will have a distinctly Christian flavor, says Lédylce...   We're happy to offer you the original lyrics in French, as well as a translation into English of a song that reaches out beyond the barriers of language to His children. Paroles: Une pluie divine d’amour et de tendresse Et lorsque j’ai soif un fleuve d’eau fraîche Tu m’entoures par devant et par derrière Tu me protèges et me consoles de mes misères   Tu es tout, Tu es t...
