"Love Still Bids You Welcome" by Jeremy David: Finding Restoration Thru Repentance by God’s Grace


(by Jasper Tan) Jeremy David's "Love Still Bids You Welcome" is a moving Christian Contemporary song that testifies to one's repentance, that God accepts with grace, and His assurance of salvation. It's a catchy acoustic rock track that acts as Jeremy's personal prayer, as he confesses the status of his relationship with God, where he feels that God is slowly drifting away from him. And while this experience brought him regret, it also helped him realize that God's love remains constant and it is never reluctant.

God has promised that He will not cast us out, and that He will always be ready to accept us back in his arms and redeem us from the darkness that we're in. All it takes is that we learn to humble ourselves and ask Him for forgiveness. In parallel, we strive hard to turn our lives around and begin a more spiritually intimate relationship with God. We should not allow our frailties to be a hurdle that separates us from God's promise of salvation, because as long as we remain faithful to Him, He will never forsake us. 

Ultimately, God stays forever the same at all times, waiting for us to find Him once more, waiting for us to be able to find our way back to Him as He welcomes us with open hands.

Background:

When was the last time you repented?

I know, I know… not a fun topic.

Repentance isn’t something Christians talk about much—and it shows up even less in the songs we sing and enjoy throughout our lives. We often think of repentance as just one of the pieces needed for a relationship with Jesus to begin.

We rarely think of it as a necessary element for our relationship with Him to flourish.

But Scripture teaches that repentance is meant to mark the entire Christian life (Gospel of Matthew 3:8).

Believers are called to continually approach the throne of grace in prayers of repentance—humbly acknowledging their sin before God and agreeing with Him that every sinful thought, word, and deed (no matter how small they may seem) is rebellion against Him.

But here’s what makes repentance a joy rather than a chore: we come with confidence, knowing Christ will always welcome a heart broken over sin (John 6:37; Psalm 51:17).

This assurance rests securely in the finished work of Christ. The punishment for the sin of everyone who would believe in Him was laid upon Him, and no punishment remains for those who are in Him (Romans 8:1).

It’s been pivotal in helping us practice repentance and rehearse this core gospel truth: although we still sin, we can continually come to Christ for pardon and never be cast out.

My prayer for this new version is that these words—paired with a fresh, energetic arrangement—would reach beyond the church walls into everyday life.

In the spirit of Epistle to the Colossians 3:16, I pray it teaches and admonishes us—showing us that our sin is far more grievous than we think, while also leading us to rejoice with thankfulness as we’re reminded that God is far more gracious and eager to forgive than we could ever comprehend.
