"Can't Shake the Faith Outta Me" by Skyler Thomas: Why Being Shaken Isn't the Same as Falling Apart


Where does your faith actually live? 

Some seasons of faith aren’t loud or polished. They’re simply stubborn. Skyler Thomas wrote “Can’t Shake the Faith Outta Me” from that kind of season — the kind where words cut, doors close, disappointments hit, and people try to tell you who you are. The song opens with: “I’ve walked through fire with my name on the line // Felt the weight of words that were never kind // I tried to give my heart, I gave all I had // But sometimes grace feels like a door slammed back.” This can shake you up, but it can actually be a step toward something bigger.

There’s a big difference, and that difference matters more than you may realize. Skyler Thomas makes this clear in the bridge of the song: “I am not my past, I am not my pain, I am not the shame they tried to put on my name.” Your identity was never up for a vote. 

Where does that kind of staying power come from? It doesn’t come from willpower, nor does it come from approval. It comes from Grace. Romans 8 says it best: “Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 

Think about it! Nothing on that list includes your mistakes, your critics, or your circumstances — because none of them have the power to disqualify you. God has already settled the matter, and what God has written into you cannot be erased. 

So what do you do when the ground moves? Stand up and show up anyway. You let your roots go deeper than your reasons. God’s mercy doesn’t run out, and neither should you. 

Listen to this song and let it remind you that you can’t shake the faith outta someone whose hope is anchored in God. “This is holy ground inside of me.”

There are seasons when faith isn’t loud or polished — it’s simply stubborn. It keeps showing up when circumstances try to wear it thin. It stands when words, rules, or disappointments try to tell you who you are. Faith like that isn’t rooted in approval or platform. It’s rooted in grace.

You may feel shaken — by people, by systems, by loss, by misunderstanding — but being shaken is not the same as being uprooted. When your faith is planted in Christ, it runs deeper than the storm.

The doors may close. The ground may move. But what God has written into you cannot be erased. You can’t shake the faith outta someone whose hope is anchored in Him.
