The Gospel / Inspirational winner of the 2020 USA Songwriter Competition is out - Judas by Mats Dernánd


Saturday, Swedish Christian artist Mats Dernánd was declared winner in the Gospel/Inspirational category in world-leading of world-leading USA Songwriting Competition.

"That they have chosen my song from a total of overall 50,000 entries is hard to comprehend," says Mats.

The winning song "Judas" is a pop song about the world's most infamous traitor and the ongoing battle for our souls.

"I use this very well-known character to ask questions about good and evil that affect all humans. It feels completely unreal that a jury with the world's largest record company has hand-picked my song from such a huge sum of entries," says Mats. "Until now I'm an unknown Swedish songwriter and artist. Winning such a big competition now feels very encouraging – I screamed straight out!"

This was the 25th edition of the USA Songwriting Competition. Both professionals and amateurs from all over the world participate in the competition. The winners in 15 classes were selected from almost 50,000 entries by a jury with representatives from the world's largest record company. Previous winners include Alannah Myles and Gino Vanelli.

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity
