Joy Dame's 'Even in the Ups': A Melody of Continual Prayer


Joy Dame released a song called: 'Even in the Ups', a nice mix of Christian pop and Gospel with a contagious 'dance in the kitchen' feel. Joy Dame wrote this song together with 3 friends during a songwriting retreat. They started from scratch as they were discussing how prayer is important in every aspect of the Christian life - 'even in the ups'. 

Joy Dame - Even in the UpsThe song is a reminder that God isn't just there for tough times, He is also there for when life is going well! Listening to the lyrics was a bit of a wakeup-call for me as well, realizing that I am sometimes more often on my knees while I'm facing challenges, and my prayers to thank Him for His blessings may be somewhat brief, or possibly even forgotten. Ouch! But it's so true: 'But even in the ups I need you, even in the ups.' 

In the ups, that's when our relationship with God is more about growing, having an attitude of praise and dependance, and being prepared to follow His lead wherever it takes us. This relationship prepares for whatever comes next, where He stands by us as we go through the challenge and helps us look back at what happened, evaluate, learn, and grow closer. 

I trust that you'll love the chorus, 'Easy to need you in the down down down, but even in the ups I need you even in the ups.' It's the kind of chorus that sticks in your mind as you are doing dishes or driving to work and hopefully also comes to mind after your downs.

"Stand By Me" by Daniel Aranda: Finding Steadiness in Life's Storms

Who’s standing with you in the storm? “Stand By Me” by Daniel Aranda is an amazing rendition of a hymn written by Charles Albert Tindley in 1905. Tindley was the son of a former slave, a man who knew what it meant to need help that wasn’t guaranteed. He didn’t write from comfort. He wrote from the middle of a fight, and that’s exactly why the song is still so relevant and cherished by many today. Daniel Aranda’s recording brings gospel legends Terry Blackwood and Charlie McCoy into that same lineage, carrying Tindley’s plea forward into a new generation.  The lyrics move through life’s troubles, one verse at a time. “When the storms of life are raging, stand by me”  — that’s not poetic exaggeration. Have you ever grown numb to a miracle?  “What A Savior” by Will & Jacinta Ellis and Crossing Life Worship began as a chorus in a co-write, before it took on a life of its own. Will & Jacinta wanted something rich and almost hymn-like, a bold declaration of who Jesus is — not a tired restatement, but a fresh look. They never wanted to grow “used to” what Jesus accomplished, so they wrote about holding on to Him in every season, regardless of whether it’s calm or chaotic.  The opening lines start with the redemption through Jesus’ blood: “The precious fount, that cleansing flow, the Son of God poured out for all.” That’s the blood that Jesus spilled for you.
