"Psalm 2 (He Who Sits)" by Red Letter Society: Finding Refuge in the King


Red Letter Society's "Psalm 2 (He Who Sits)" is the second single from Jordan West's ambitious project with Red Letter Society, a project where all 150 psalms will be put to new meditative and worshipful music. This single captures the chaos of rebellion and the calm authority of the King. "He Who Sits" reminds us that God is not shaken by our actions or even the stupidities that are going on in and between nations, He reigns. God laughs at our futile rebellion! 

Red Letter Society - Psalm 2 (He Who Sits)The point of this Psalm is not to seek an answer but to make a point. There seems to be no good reason why anyone, even kings and rulers, would try to defy God. The motivation for rebelling against God is selfishness and pride. This also comes with anger and hate, and we can see what this all leads to. "Why do the nations rage // The people fight and war in vain." Selfishness, pride, anger, and hate… 

Realize that the message of this Psalm is about us and what's going on in our hearts and minds. This song is reminding us that each one of us is key to creating change in the nation, and that this change starts in our own hearts. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

Would the chaos of today still happen if we all freed ourselves from our selfishness, pride, anger, and hate, and shifted our focus to the King? "For He who sits in heaven's throne // On Zion's hill, The Holy place // Is threatened not by earthly groans." We can be grateful that no matter the noise, His reign remains steady.

This song combines feelings of reverence and awe, and urges us to tremble before His throne. Tremble is not just fear, but it's more of a deep respect and acknowledgment of God's majesty and our vulnerability. 

May this song bring new insights and encourage you to turn your rebellion against God into accepting His reign and rejoicing in His grace.

"Sunlight (Storge)" by Chelsea Chaisson: Reminisce the Simpler Times

(by Jasper Tan) Feel good, light-hearted, easy listening track. That's how I find Chelsea Chaisson's new single called "Sunlight (Storge)." I was kind of curious what the word "Storge" means, so I had to look it up. According to Wikipedia, "Storge is a Greek word that refers to natural, familial affection or love, particularly the bond between parents and children, as well as among family members and close friends. It is characterized by familiarity, dependence, and loyalty, often rooted in kinship bonds and shared experiences." Sounds very familiar? Of course, it should be, because as per the description, it actually describes what Christian love is. Or should I say how God loves us as His children?
