"Forever Yes" by Nia Akins: When Surrender Means Saying Goodbye


"Forever Yes" by Nia Akins is about what it may mean to surrender your life to Christ. In Nia's case, her surrender wasn't an easy choice. She shares that her commitment to Jesus meant that she had to let go of the comfort of her former life. It was a necessary choice, and one that brought a lot of hardship instead of instant blessings. She traded her familiar life for uncertain faith and trusted that the seeds that God was sowing "in the unseen" would prove to be worth all of the struggles she was facing.

Nia doesn't hide her doubt. Yes, she questioned God's timing and wrestled with her unanswered prayers. Yet she answers this uncertainty with resilient hope: "evergreens'll grow where the thorns should." Even when blessings feel delayed, you can choose to grieve in hope and pray through pain. 

The key message is that you don't need to first see results to trust His faithfulness. Instead of demanding understanding, you can simply say, "I trust You." 

What would it mean if you decided today to say "forever yes" to God? Maybe the time is right to let go of something that's keeping you from a deeper commitment to Him.

Background:

Saying yes to Jesus, for me, meant saying no to at the time to the life I knew and had grown comfortable with. This song is honest about how leaving that life for the hope of life eternal was challenging but necessary to commit myself more to the Lord. I wasn't met immediately with showered blessings in the seen but actually with a lot of hardship. But the seeds He was sowing in the unseen and growing in His knowledge and His love was worth all I endured. There's a bible verse for every season and situation and for this theme and this song, Philippians 3:8 reigns true "What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ"
