"He's My Rock" by Jamar Esaw & Triad 4 Christ: Finding Shelter in the Storm

(by Jasper Tan) “He’s My Rock” by Jamar Esaw & Triad4Christ featuring Koriann Lewis-Freeman is a powerful contemporary Gospel track that delivers a blend of traditional worship and modern soul. It reminds me of some of the songs by the band DC Talk, which was the definitive sound of modern Christian Contemporary Music when it exploded in the music scene back in the 90’s. This contemporary Gospel track brings forth an energetic sound that updates the way we sing our praise and worship sessions in our Churches. The song brings in a raw modern energy that breaks tradition while also encouraging worship sessions to be more in tune with the times, which brings a lot of youthful energy.

Jamar Esaw & Triad 4 Christ - He's My RockThe song is powered by Jamar Esaw’s smooth, commanding vocals and Koriann Lewis-Freeman’s additional vocal range. Bringing in an electric chemistry rooted in the authenticity of emotions as they sang the lyrics of the song. This is clearly felt during the song’s build-up to its climactic moments. With a run time of seven and a half minutes, the song packs in a lot of punch that highlights the heartfelt vocals of the aforementioned duo and the musical wizardry of Ayron Lewis, an award-winning producer.

The music starts with a slow, atmospheric feel that gradually swells with the inclusion of a full choir ensemble by the Triad4Christ. The song transitions smoothly from a more personal, intimate prayer to a rising communal anthem of praise. And it flows seamlessly throughout this 7-minute and a half track.

The song uses the classic biblical metaphor of God as a “Rock”, indicating God as our source of stability, strength, and refuge. It encourages us to hold on to our faith during our turbulent times, serving as a reminder that God will always be there to rely on and to have our faith anchored in him at all times.

“He’s My Rock” is a welcome addition to contemporary Gospel music. It’s not just to be consumed as a radio-friendly song, but also doubles down as a worthy, genuine worship experience in sync with modern times.

(Related scripture: Psalm 18:2; Matthew 16:18-19; 2 Corinthians 12:9)

Background:

During preparations for the Triad 4 Christ session, Ayron Lewis, an award-winning producer, and I determined that one more song was necessary to seamlessly connect the other music; within a short span of two hours, Ayron created the melody, and we collaboratively penned the lyrics, producing He’s My Rock

As the song took shape, I realized it encapsulated the essence of my testimony from recent seasons.

A scripture from my childhood came to mind – Psalm 18:2, describing GOD as ‘my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer.’ The word ‘rock’ held significant meaning for me. Despite the instability that surrounded me, GOD remained the constant, unshakeable presence.

Many Christian Artists struggle to reach new listeners. What saddens me is that many Christian artists only scratch the surface of their music marketing possibilities. DIY-platforms, such...

'Lonely Dirt Road' by Dax: A Journey to Solitude and God

Dax's 'Lonely Dirt Road' is a conversation that Dax has with himself and God. Dax shares his journey of turning mental health walks into healing solitary drives. As you listen, you can almost feel the cruise, where it's just you, your thoughts, and God.  The chorus is so relatable: 'When I need space, that's where I go, a place to escape that nobody knows.' What do you do when life's pressures stack high? Do you also have a space where you can let go? That lonely dirt road that Dax sings about symbolizes solitude, but it is also an incredible opportunity for connecting with God.  Dax's honesty is raw and relatable. 'I didn't want my family to see me cry… dealing with the pressure of trying to provide.' There are times when we all put on a smile to hide how challenging situations may be. Like his father, Dax says that he finds peace on this lonely road, where challenges become opportunities to grow. This shows the core of our faith: that...

Ryan Stevenson - Carry Me (CCM)

Ryan Stevenson’s song ‘Carry Me’ is a powerful and emotive plea for help and guidance, and a reminder of the transformative power of faith. The lyrics are deeply personal and relatable, touching on themes of weariness, loneliness, and uncertainty. The song is a testament to the power of prayer and the strength we can find when we surrender our burdens to God. Stevenson’s own story of finding his way to a deeper understanding of grace and God’s love gives the song even more resonance. The honesty and vulnerability with which he shares his struggles and doubts will resonate with anyone who has faced similar challenges in their own life. The music itself is a beautiful and stirring blend of keyboard, guitar, and electronic elements, creating a haunting and atmospheric sound that perfectly complements the lyrics. The chorus is particularly powerful, with Stevenson’s voice rising to a crescendo as he cries out for help and support. If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed, or simply need a rem...
