Find Your Rest in 'Covered': Chelsea Nogas' Invitation to Grace

Chelsea Nogas's song 'Covered' is what I call a blessing wrapped in melody, and addresses a trap that feels all to familiar. The trap of thinking that I don't deserve a blessing I've received or that I need to earn God's love through my actions. 'Covered' is based on Matthew 11:28. Chelsea wrote it as a reminder that rest and freedom are gifts from Jesus, ones we find at the cross, not as a result of what we do. Gifts based on grace, His grace.

Chelsea Nogas - CoveredThe lyrics, 'Lord, I need Your rest… At the cross, I lay my head,' is an invitation to lay down what your trying to 'earn', your striving, and remember that His grace and love have already covered everything. His grace is enough! We're His, adopted through His blood. We all need to be reminded from time to time of the gospel, and that true freedom/rest is found at the cross.

Chelsea chose an acoustic piano backdrop for 'Covered,' ensuring the spotlight remains on the message of grace and surrender. This song is a beautiful trigger to stop what you're doing, breathe, and acknowledge the fact that we are free because of His love and ultimate sacrifice.

So, go ahead and give 'Covered' a listen. May its message remind you that His love is more than enough. It is through His grace that we may find rest and freedom, because He has got everything covered.

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity

Kevin Winebarger teamed up with Joshua Frerichs and Benji Cowart to create this beautiful song. "Your Love" tackles that discouraging voice we all hear from time to time, the one that whispers that we're not enough and that we are defined by our past. "Once a liar, always a liar," and all kinds of variations along this same line of thought. This song isn't about wallowing in shame. "Your Love" is a celebration of the grace that changes everything.  The opening lines hit hard: "I could believe that I'm not enough // It's clear to see I don't measure up." Yep, we've all been there! But this isn't how God want us to be defined… He loved us first! "It's just what You've done // Because of Your love." That's the heart of everything.  Kevin places the change the God brings into perspective, "I could believe that my mistakes // Will follow me down into the grave // But I'm not who I was....

"Come Let Us Go" by NARROWAY: Journey to the Mountain of Light

It's difficult to imagine that there will be a day when all nations are tired of the chaos and finally ask, "Where do we go from here?" The answer to that question is the theme of NARROWAY's "Come, Let Us Go." The lyrics are inspired by Isaiah 2 and Micah 4, and look forward to "… the days that are coming, the mountain will rise // Lifted above all the nations and skies // People will gather from near and far // Saying, "Let's go to where His teachings are." As we observe the chaos in the world, the wars, and the rumor of wars, it's hard to imagine that "Swords turned to plows, war fades away // Shalom will reign in Yah's good way." Believe it or not, there will be a day with "No more fear, no more fight // Just His Torah shining bright." But the key message of this song isn't a distant promise! The lyrics pull us to the here and now… our present reality. The reality is that God's Kingdom is stepping on...

'Lonely Dirt Road' by Dax: A Journey to Solitude and God

Dax's 'Lonely Dirt Road' is a conversation that Dax has with himself and God. Dax shares his journey of turning mental health walks into healing solitary drives. As you listen, you can almost feel the cruise, where it's just you, your thoughts, and God.  The chorus is so relatable: 'When I need space, that's where I go, a place to escape that nobody knows.' What do you do when life's pressures stack high? Do you also have a space where you can let go? That lonely dirt road that Dax sings about symbolizes solitude, but it is also an incredible opportunity for connecting with God.  Dax's honesty is raw and relatable. 'I didn't want my family to see me cry… dealing with the pressure of trying to provide.' There are times when we all put on a smile to hide how challenging situations may be. Like his father, Dax says that he finds peace on this lonely road, where challenges become opportunities to grow. This shows the core of our faith: that...
