"Holy Is Your Name" by Darrell Vaughn - When Words Fail, Worship Speaks

Have you ever found yourself at a loss for words when you tried to describe God's greatness? Darrell Vaughn is a worship leader at the Rockpile Church in Texas, and he knows that feeling. This song, "Holy Is Your Name", takes a closer look at this struggle. Darrell has been involved in leading worship and church planting for four decades. He uses his experiences and musical skills to turn this struggle between our human limitations and God's majesty into a faith-boosting song. The melody of the song is an intriguing mix of country, soul, and modern Christian music with a bit of a laid-back vibe.

Darrell Vaughn - Holy Is Your NameThere is nothing laid-back about the message of the song. The lyrics challenge us to look for new ways to express God's worthiness. Vaughn sings, "I'm searching for a new word," showing the challenge we all face from time to time to express what we feel using words. It's a bit like the challenge we have to describe the taste of a strawberry or the feeling we have when we know that we're truly loved, unless you are talking to someone who has experienced the same. Instead of overcomplicating things, Darrell encourages us to stick to the basics, "Back to the basics now, Jesus, you are king!" The chorus declares His greatness — "You're the good one, the holy one" — and builds up to a joyful crescendo of "Hallelujahs." Instead of trying to describe God's greatness, sing praises to describe what His greatness does and means to you. It's going back to what we know is true.

If you've ever struggled to express your amazement with words, may this song help you to express your awe and gratitude in other ways. Go ahead and give it a listen. It might just inspire your own moment of praise.

"Man I Used To Be" by Dax: Half the Weight, Double the Faith

"Man I Used To Be" by Dax is a very personal song. Dax had promised himself that he wouldn't release new music until he'd stayed sober for six months, the time he needed to get his priorities straight and clear his mind. "Man I Used To Be" is the sound of his first clean breath, life with God by his side. Dax lays it bare: "Trials and tribulations, all my past trauma," he acknowledges, along with "generational curses from daddy and mama," and the "addictions that clouded my eyes." The honesty about his past struggles makes the message of this song so relatable and powerful.  The chorus is about the moment that the script was flipped, "I'm half the man I used to be." Not a broken man, but a man who has been freed from the burdens that weren't his to carry and kept him from God. "I don't ever chase, I got God," declaring that his new identity is anchored in faith. It's a shrug and a testimo...

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity

Kevin Winebarger teamed up with Joshua Frerichs and Benji Cowart to create this beautiful song. "Your Love" tackles that discouraging voice we all hear from time to time, the one that whispers that we're not enough and that we are defined by our past. "Once a liar, always a liar," and all kinds of variations along this same line of thought. This song isn't about wallowing in shame. "Your Love" is a celebration of the grace that changes everything.  The opening lines hit hard: "I could believe that I'm not enough // It's clear to see I don't measure up." Yep, we've all been there! But this isn't how God want us to be defined… He loved us first! "It's just what You've done // Because of Your love." That's the heart of everything.  Kevin places the change the God brings into perspective, "I could believe that my mistakes // Will follow me down into the grave // But I'm not who I was....

'Lonely Dirt Road' by Dax: A Journey to Solitude and God

Dax's 'Lonely Dirt Road' is a conversation that Dax has with himself and God. Dax shares his journey of turning mental health walks into healing solitary drives. As you listen, you can almost feel the cruise, where it's just you, your thoughts, and God.  The chorus is so relatable: 'When I need space, that's where I go, a place to escape that nobody knows.' What do you do when life's pressures stack high? Do you also have a space where you can let go? That lonely dirt road that Dax sings about symbolizes solitude, but it is also an incredible opportunity for connecting with God.  Dax's honesty is raw and relatable. 'I didn't want my family to see me cry… dealing with the pressure of trying to provide.' There are times when we all put on a smile to hide how challenging situations may be. Like his father, Dax says that he finds peace on this lonely road, where challenges become opportunities to grow. This shows the core of our faith: that...
