"I Lift My Eyes (Psalm 121)" by Cindy Clark: A Psalm Turned Present-Tense

Cindy Clark - I Lift My Eyes (Psalm 121)

Cindy Clark's "I Lift My Eyes (Psalm 121)" was born during a special friendship. The backstory that Cindy shared says it all and deserves to be shared with a larger audience.

Cindy wrote:

"In 2024 I had the honour of meeting a young lady named Stephanie. This was what I would call a divine appointment, and it changed my life. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time to get to know her, as her health took a turn for the worse and she ended up in the hospital for a few weeks before passing away at the early age of 25. The time we did have together she shared a little bit of her journey with OCD/addiction and it was heartbreaking. During this season I met with her weekly, and prayed for her daily. Every time I did I would sing this old Vineyard worship song by Brian Derksen's called "I Lift my eyes up".

For 4 months I sang that worship song numerous times a day, when one day I felt that inner prompting in my soul, this voice whisper "go and sing Psalm 121". I turned to it, and while in the same key as this old worship song, another song came out of me as I sang the written word. This Psalm began to take shape into a vibe I would have never expected. Many have said it makes you happy to listen to. Psalm 121 Verse 7 says "The Lord will keep you from all harm, He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever. A reminder that in the depths of the hard stuff of life He is always there. The disco funk groove partnered with soul, sprinkled with some rock, a saxophone that will make you smile, and a kicking choir to echo "YOU ARE WHERE MY HELP COMES FROM" a powerful and fun anthem we can sing in this life as we Journey our way to God."

The key message of this song / Psalm is that our journey is covered. We're reminded that "The Lord will keep you from all harm," not by removing every hardship, but by being an ever-present shade and keeper. May Cindy's song remind you to lift your eyes to Him, for He is where our help comes from!
