Dave Whitcroft (KDMusic) has released a Christmas Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called A Wexford Carol (Do Not Be Afraid). The new version of this Irish carol from the 12th century offers additional bridges as well as choral parts intended for use as part of Christmas services by both novice and experienced choirs. The song is based on the story of Luke chapter 2: the shepherds, angels, and young Mary. As opposed to the original version, which elegantly skips past the shepherds' shock and fear at the encounter with the angel, this version emphasizes the central biblical words of the angel: "Do not be afraid!'', and the heavenly proclamation: 'Glory to the King, whose time has come, born for everyone!'. Heaven's most common instruction to mankind is, "DO NOT BE AFRAID." It is an especially powerful and pertinent message from God's word as we enter the second winter of the current COVID pandemic.
