The Gray Havens - Pale Moonlight (CCM)

The Gray Havens has released a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called Pale Moonlight.

The song was inspired by CS Lewis’ autobiography Surprised by Joy. In the autobiography, Lewis shares about his journey with God and the ups and downs along the way. This song tells the story of chasing the wrong desires and not finding the satisfaction and joy he was so longing for.

Dave will go into more depth on this particular story on the podcast episode for this song that will post on Tuesday. I’d encourage you to give the podcast a listen as Dave gives great insight on each song on the album. You can listen here - http://smarturl.it/tghpodcast

The lyrics:

Verse 1
In the pale moonlight
In the dark, in the dead of night Second hand from a star it shines The fire’s on

Verse 2

Cold touch of an ancient rhyme There's a god that I left behind Second-hand everywhere I find The fire’s gone

Pre-Chours 1

They told me keep to your course In chasin' after desire
I'm not findin' a source
Like some sun-gold fire

Chorus 1

But maybe I’ve been sold a lie
I can’t find a light
Tell me how many go down and never return To the sunlit lands, heaven please
Have I lost 'em for good

Verse 3

Had a dream where I went to find

Far away, over seas and time
The lost shores of a distant island, for so long

Verse 4

Woke up to the pale moonlight Cold touch of an ancient rhyme Second-hand everywhere, I'll find it The first one

Pre-Chorus 2

They told me keep to your course In chasin' after desire
I'm not findin' a source
Like some sun-gold fire

Chorus 2

But maybe I’ve been sold a lie
I can’t find a light
Tell me how many go down and never return To the sunlit lands, heaven please

Chorus 3

But maybe I’ve been sold a lie
I can’t find a light
Tell me how many go down and never return To the sunlit lands, heaven please

Have I lost 'em for good

"Heartbeat" by Laura Leighe - Dancing in Worship

Here's a song that's more or less been stuck in my head since I heard it. It's called 'Heartbeat' by Laura Leighe and is what Laura calls a "reggaeton-influenced Christian pop duet" that's all about surrendering to God's rhythm and dancing in worship, no matter what life throws your way.  The lyrics remind me of two scriptures: "Praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe."  - Psalm 150:4 (NIV) and "Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might."  - 2 Samuel 6:14 (NIV). Maybe I'm a bit prejudiced because the song reminds us of our own thoughts when we founded "Christian Dance" years ago and picked a name. Focusing on music that allows us to feel joy and causes us (our hearts) to dance for God, a pure form of worship that we know is pleasing to God. The lyrics are about surrendering our control and trusting in God's plan. Laura sings, "I bet you f...

'Lonely Dirt Road' by Dax: A Journey to Solitude and God

Dax's 'Lonely Dirt Road' is a conversation that Dax has with himself and God. Dax shares his journey of turning mental health walks into healing solitary drives. As you listen, you can almost feel the cruise, where it's just you, your thoughts, and God.  The chorus is so relatable: 'When I need space, that's where I go, a place to escape that nobody knows.' What do you do when life's pressures stack high? Do you also have a space where you can let go? That lonely dirt road that Dax sings about symbolizes solitude, but it is also an incredible opportunity for connecting with God.  Dax's honesty is raw and relatable. 'I didn't want my family to see me cry… dealing with the pressure of trying to provide.' There are times when we all put on a smile to hide how challenging situations may be. Like his father, Dax says that he finds peace on this lonely road, where challenges become opportunities to grow. This shows the core of our faith: that...

'Whatever It Takes – Acoustic' by Stephen Stanley: Embracing Divine Grace Amid Trial

Stephen Stanley vividly portrays the profound journey of faith in his moving acoustic rendition of the song 'Whatever It Takes'. His sincerity echoes the difficulties of completely surrendering one's heart to God despite being burdened by past mistakes and self-doubt. However, as we all know, the journey to the divine, while difficult, ultimately changes everything. 'Whatever it Takes,' a testament to Stanley's commitment, is a vocal affirmation to live continuously for God. The lyrics touch listeners' hearts as he admits, 'I've been reckless with my heart / Now I'm falling apart'; a message that many can relate to. This bold declaration is followed by a powerful surrender: 'I don't wanna be the same / I need You to be the change / I surrender all I am.' Stanley's song reaches out to everyone who has struggled with their shortcomings and leads them to the comforting presence of God. Self-doubt and the fear of falling may plagu...
