Luke Garfield - Above All Things (CCM)

Luke Garfield - Above All Things
Luke Garfield has released a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called 'Above All Things'.

'Above All Things' is a song that Luke Garfield wanted to write after listening to a podcast interview. The person being interviewed was talking about a phrase from Colossians in the Bible, which speaks of Jesus: “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through him and for him.”

Garfield says: "The phrase ‘created through him and for him’ really hit home like never before. All that was created good and pure was through Jesus and for him. That might offend some people who think Jesus sounds like a Greek or Roman-type god, who is greedy and wants everything for himself. But I believe those words are wonderfully rich and deep when you understand who Jesus is. When you read that in context of Jesus coming to seek and save the lost and when you read it knowing that Jesus says if He sets you free, you are free indeed."

He continues: “Then you start to understand that this wayward world was never meant to look the way it does and God had a plan to make it right through Jesus. Most of all, Jesus cares about us because we were made through him and for him - we are dear to him.”

From that kernel of an idea, Garfield started to take the rest of the first chapter of Colossians and created the lyrics for the song, 'Above All Things'. One of the earlier songs written for The Unseen album, 'Above All Things' has found a regular home as a live worship song in his local church for the past four years.

One other unique aspect of this release is the synesthetic artwork for the song. It was painted by friend and fellow musician, Fear of Flight (Aaron Shipway) who has an amazing gift of seeing the music he hears. Garfield is also filming a mini-documentary to explore synesthesia and the music of The Unseen album to be released later in 2022.

Lyrics:

Verse 1.
Firstborn over creation
Image of God, a revelation
All things created through him
All things created for him

Chorus
He is above all things
Harmony is found in him
On earth and in heaven
He brings us together
We all bow down

Verse 2.
Radiance and glory of God
The universe sustained by your word
Mirror of the Father’s heart
You were with him from the start

Bridge
You’ve delivered us from darkness
Brought into your kingdom
You reign.
Anchored to the hope of gospel
Sons of your kingdom
We praise.

"Coming Out Of Babylon" by Robert Peterson and The Crusade: Finding Purpose and Joy in Christ

Robert Peterson had barely dusted off his drum kit when the Lord handed him a new setlist. Robert shares: "this current round of songs being created were different - they were all his - well sort of all his." He had decided it was time to offer up his talents to the Lord. Robert writes: "I was mortified at the thought of actually giving my life to Him. I didn't want to give up who I thought I was."   "Coming Out of Babylon" is the first song coming out of this change (one that was on the shelve a while pending creation of a intro). The result is a five-minute testimony that turns a trembling surrender into a victory march. As you listen, you can feel how this slow ache of "doing what I wanted to… without a fear" transitions into the realization that "I needed You - all the way."   What I enjoy about the song is that it helps to see "leaving" as the first step that is needed to following His calling for us. The chorus emph...

Secrets Artists Should Learn About The Spotify Algorithm

Spotify's competitive edge is the amount of data it holds on listeners and the way it uses that data to increase engagement. ... Using the same underlying data and technology can provide unique insights to record labels and artists about who's listening to what and help them reach more listeners. The Spotify algorithm sets itself apart from other digital music streaming services. The algorithm is an AI system known as BaRT (an abbreviation of Ba ndits for R ecommendations as T reatments). Basically, BaRT’s job is to keep listeners listening. It does this by playing and suggesting songs it knows the user is familiar with, while dropping in some fresh tracks it thinks they might like, but most importantly, haven’t heard before. This makes sure the listener is engaged, but things never get boring. BaRT decides what to suggest to listeners by combining two concepts – Explore and Exploit. This combination is the key to the platform’s recommendation system. Exploit uses the listene...
