Zach Garrett's 'Give Me the Real Jesus' – Let Your Heart Be Touched


How do you find the right words to describe your longing for an authentic relationship with Christ? Zach Garrett's describes that longing in his song 'Give Me the Real Jesus'. Garrett grew up prioritizing the 'thou shalts' and 'thou shalt nots' over the genuine relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. A relationship with Jesus isn't about focussing on rules and rituals! It's a relationship that is focussed on a living, breathing communion with Jesus.

While full of good intentions, the rules and traditions of religion can sometimes become a barrier, leaving us merely 'reading the words and going their own way' instead of truly experiencing Jesus' love and grace. 

We are and need His church, but we shouldn't be crushed under the weight of 'broken religion,' or better said, the weight of what man imposes instead of what God asks us to do and become. The lyrics touch on real-life issues: burdens and shame, but Garrett reassures us that there is hope. Jesus is the One who lifts our burdens and offers healing. This isn't about mere 'admission' into a religious club; it's about transforming our hearts and lives through Jesus' boundless grace and love - a love that conquered the grave. 

Give 'Give Me the Real Jesus' a listen. I'm confident that the music and lyrics are uplifting and freeing. 

In Garrett's own words: 'It's my prayer that this song is an encouragement to everyone who listens to it and I pray that it may even give people 'permission' or rather freedom to seek a true and genuine relationship with Jesus.' Amen to that!

Jesus knows your pain before you speak it. Lauren Gruwell knows what it is when Jesus feels unreachable. Trauma in her childhood left her with deep sorrow, and for years Jesus seemed too far away. She didn’t think she was good enough to come near Him. Are you also familiar with that feeling? "My Side" by Dan Read: Proof That God Never Leaves Your Side

You can ask God the hard questions. Dan Read doesn’t tiptoe around hard questions. His song, “My Side”, opens with a whole bunch of questions: “Where is the rudder that keeps me afloat?” “Where is the anchor when I know I shouldn’t go?” “Where is the sail that guides me home?” Have you ever asked God something that blunt? Dan also admits what he can’t see. “I don’t know what the future holds.” “I don’t know why we hurt sometimes.” No tidy answers follow. Every one of these questions lands in the same place: “I look to the heavens.” Notice what he does with his doubt. He lifts it instead of hiding it. The writer of the book of Hebrews (we don’t know who the author was) gives that habit a solid footing: “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.” In other words, waves still roll, and our Anchor holds anyway.
