What does it mean to be truly alive? The New England worship collective VoxMusic explores this question in their latest single, "Fully Alive." The song is a reminder of our "complete identity" in Christ. An authentic life can't be found in perfection, but we can find it in God's unconditional acceptance of our imperfection (our brokenness).
The opening verse immediately disarms our fears: "You're not disappointed in me // You meet me in my humanity // You see my brokenness and lean in close // No matter where I run, you call me home." Instead of running away or thinking that we can't come close to God because of our flaws, we're invited to accept that "There's no distance from your love // I belong to you, I'm fully alive // Through the power of your cross."
The song celebrates the undeniable truth that "I am seen as blameless in your sight // Shame consumed in perfect sacrifice." Because "Your mercy triumphs judgment every time."
Whenever you are unsure what true belonging feels like, then listen closely to the chorus: "I belong to you, I'm fully alive // Through the power of your cross // There's no distance from your love." Our identity isn't based on who we are or what we have accomplished. Our true identity can be found through the cross, and through the cross we are home in God's heart.
So, take a moment to give this song a listen. May it remind you that you're fully alive in Him.
