"The Long Haul" by Lauren Gruwell: When God Refuses to Let Go


Nothing in life is certain. Life can fall apart, pieces scatter, hearts break, and there will be times when hope runs thin. Lauren Gruwell wrote “The Long Haul” for exactly those moments, the moments where getting back up and moving forward again seems impossible.

Not when your life unravels, not when you’re the reason it’s unravelling. We are so capable of messing things up, and despite that… we can be confident that: “… I have a God who refuses to give up on me // And no matter what, He has proven He will never leave.” There is always a way to get our lives back on track, because we have a faithful God! 

What does His faithfulness look like? It shows up in the hard fall, the breakdown, the moment when all of our hope disappears. Lauren reminds us that Jesus isn’t a fair-weather companion — He walks through the rain and storm just as surely as the sunshine. His mercy doesn’t run out. His grace has no limits.

"The Long Haul" is a reminder that God is always with you, and that nothing can separate you from His love. In my darkest times, I've been reminded that God is right there, walking by my side. This life is tough, but it helps to be reminded that we are NEVER really alone in our suffering. Jesus Christ has suffered how you've suffered, and loves you endlessly. He wants to walk with you through your long haul. He is there in the good times AND in the bad times. He is faithful. He is always aware of you, and nothing can separate you from His love! I hope this song reminds you of how LOVED you are!

"Hallelujah Anyway" by Zach Garrett: Praise That Doesn't Wait for the Storm to Pass

What if worship doesn’t require having answers? Storm clouds hide the stars. The road stretches on with no map and no end in sight. That’s the world Zach Garrett describes in the opening lines of “Hallelujah Anyway,” and if you’ve walked through a season of loss or confusion, you already recognize the setting. Zach wrote this song from inside real darkness, in his case, a stretch of loss, hurt, and unanswered questions that didn’t resolve on his timeline. "Lifeline" by Hudson Bezotte: Faith That Holds in Winter Seasons

Where do you turn when signs stop coming? Hudson Bezotte’s “Lifeline” opens with a confession, one you may also recognize. “I feel like I’ve been here a while.” He was met by Jesus as a child, and He “walked with me for miles.” But life happens, and it can be tough to keep the fire going “in the winter.” Have you been there, or is this where you’re at today? You still believe, but the wonder has cooled. Hudson wrote the song during a daily songwriting challenge, and the lyrics carry a lifetime of following Jesus: the disappointments, the desperation, and the hope that has outlasted them.
