Peace doesn’t start with nations — it starts with you.
Wounds have a way of hardening and becoming walls. Anger becomes a habit. Resentment becomes identity. Soul’s Victory wrote “Heaven Drawing Near” from the conviction that we can break this downward spiral, not through politics, or (violent) protests, but through the quiet and radical act of choosing God.
The song opens with: “We’ve walked through fire, we’ve worn the scars, carried old anger like chains in the dark.” That line is painfully familiar, as we see it happening in our own lives and in the people around us. Most of us know the weight we can feel caused by an old hurt that we somehow can’t quite put down. One that keeps on surfacing when triggered by even the faintest memories of that painful situation. But the backstory that Soul’s Victory shared about this song holds the belief that lasting peace begins with God, then moves into our hearts, our families, our friendships, and ultimately the world around us. Peace grows every time someone keeps choosing forgiveness over bitterness, mercy over retaliation, grace over pride.
That idea finds its root in many scriptures, such as Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Peace isn’t passive. It requires a constant choice to pursue reconciliation, even when conflict feels easier. When Jesus spoke about the peacekeepers, He wasn’t talking about those who simply avoid confrontation. Peacemakers are the ones who actively work to restore what division has broken.
Have a look at all of your relationships. Is there someone you’ve been treating as an enemy? Is there a conversation that you’ve been avoiding? Have you got a wound you’ve been nursing instead of releasing? God is already at work in the broken places. Your part is to let Him work on your broken places as well.
Pray today for someone who is difficult to love. Extend the grace that you’ve already received. Watch what happens when one heart surrenders its war. Take a moment and listen to “Heaven Drawing Near” by Soul’s Victory. “And maybe love begins when forgiveness finally wins.”

Background:
Heaven Drawing Near was written from a belief that peace begins with God, then moves into our hearts, our families, our friendships, and ultimately the world around us.
The song was inspired by seeing how much division, anger, resentment, and conflict exist in everyday life. Rather than focusing on heaven only as a future destination, the song reflects the idea that heaven begins drawing near whenever people choose forgiveness, reconciliation, mercy, and grace.
The message is simple: before nations find peace, people must find peace with God and with one another.
