Do you believe God loves you, or just tolerates you?
Chad Jackson spent years believing God loved him because the Bible says so, not because it felt true. Surface-level love, obligatory… Chad shares: “If I’m honest, I feel like He tolerated me. The apostle Paul wrote about this in Romans 5:8: “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Not after we cleaned up. Not after we’ve earned it. I’ve always struggled as a believer to accept God’s love. I believed He loved me but it was more surface level. Like He had to because God is love. If I’m honest, I feel like he tolerated me. Over the last few years He has been showing me through scripture and personal time with Him that His love is different. It’s a love that doesn’t run when I fall. When I say fall, I mean choose sin over Him. So the song came from an overwhelming realization that He actually loves me. Like for real. Not just because He has to.
My prayer with this song is that people come alive to the fact that God really loves them. Not just surface level, He has to kind of love. The kind of love that lays down their life while we were still sinners.
