"None Like You" by Salt: Surrendering to the Pursuit of His Love

"None Like You" by Salt is a powerful song about the wonder and holiness of God, written by the Southern California duo Brian Albright and Kadi Zabka. The song has a powerful melody, honest lyrics, and encourages us to pause regularly to worship Him, and focus on His presence.

Salt - None Like YouIt's so easy to get distracted by the chaos of life, a chaos that can shout louder than our longing for His presence and distract us from realizing that His love and grace for us is unique. Step away from those distractions and realize that nothing else compares to what He gives us. "I won't go searching any longer // All that I need is what you're offering me." Salt describes His love as "a kind of love that's like no other," and it's a kind of love that cannot be found in 'the world'. Sadly, it's not just the chaos of the world around us that distracts, we also experience chaos in our lives, felt in our heart and mind, and it distracts us from realizing that His love is already in front of us, within our grasp, if we just open our hearts to let Him in. There is no substitute for God, "Holy are you Lord // There is none like you // Nothing else will do."

The beauty of His pursuit for us, an active and loving desire to have a relationship with us, is highlighted by lines like "You are all my heart could long for // And I don't have to reach, you're coming after me." God never gives up on us. As the Good Shepherd, He loves, cares for, provides for, and protects us. The lyrics in the bridge emphasize this point: "You're the only one who reaches out to me in all your glory."

This song is an invitation to fix our eyes on God, because He is the One who truly satisfies.

Skillet - Valley of Death (CCM)

Skillet has released a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) track called Valley of Death. The global health crisis of the last two years has led to numerous questions regarding why bad things happen to good people. Skillet's John Cooper explains why he believes God allowed the pandemic to happen. Skillet has released their new album Dominion through Atlantic Records last Friday (Jan. 14). A discussion with 'Loudwire Nights' host Toni Gonzalez brought up the track "Valley of Death," which contains the lyrics: "Someone said this is all part of the plan / But I don't understand." Gonzalez then asked him why he thinks God would allow a pandemic. This is what Cooper said: "Well, the first answer is that we're not good people. We're all fallen and we are all in desperate need of salvation through Jesus. So, we're not actually good people, we all do bad stuff. We all cheat, we've all lied, we're all greedy and as much as the most lov...

"How Glorious" by Red Letter Society: Why This Song Unites the Church

"How Glorious" by Red Letter Society is a Trinity-focused song that pulls you into worship. Written by Justin Tweito and Jordan West, the song calls us to return to the heart of our faith. The opening line, "How wonderful is the cross of Christ,"  draws us into praise.  The song invites us to repentance and faith, but more importantly, the lyrics magnify the Trinity: the Father's eternal plan, the Son's sacrifice, and the Spirit's ongoing work in us. The song celebrates how every part of God is involved in redeeming us!  Have you ever wondered how a song can feel so unifying? That's the beauty of this song! It calls us, the Church, to stand together in bold praise. Instead of focusing on what divides us, it points us upwards, looking to our God who is glorious in love, power, and purpose. It encourages us to see the love of the Father, the blood of the Son, and how it is applied by the Holy Spirit.  There's no abstract theology in this song… the ...

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity

Kevin Winebarger teamed up with Joshua Frerichs and Benji Cowart to create this beautiful song. "Your Love" tackles that discouraging voice we all hear from time to time, the one that whispers that we're not enough and that we are defined by our past. "Once a liar, always a liar," and all kinds of variations along this same line of thought. This song isn't about wallowing in shame. "Your Love" is a celebration of the grace that changes everything.  The opening lines hit hard: "I could believe that I'm not enough // It's clear to see I don't measure up." Yep, we've all been there! But this isn't how God want us to be defined… He loved us first! "It's just what You've done // Because of Your love." That's the heart of everything.  Kevin places the change the God brings into perspective, "I could believe that my mistakes // Will follow me down into the grave // But I'm not who I was....
