Can Grace really undo a bad harvest?
Every choice we make plants something. That’s the uncomfortable truth that is at the heart of “Do Not Be Deceived” by whispering HOPE. The verses describe “seeds beneath the surface, in the choices that I make,” hidden tendencies that quietly become the path on which we walk. Whispering HOPE doesn’t let us off easy here — “what is buried does not vanish, it is waiting in the ground.” Careless seasons don’t disappear. They sit there waiting to surface, and usually the timing is horrible.
But this song isn’t about shame. It’s about honesty that is followed by hope. The bridge shifts the focus of the song to God: “You restore what I have broken, You redeem what I have sown.” That’s the turn that you can choose to make in your life. Whatever field you’ve grown, God can undo a bad harvest and replant it. whispering Hope shared: “Sowing and reaping — life is shaped by what is planted, but His grace restores.”
The message in this song is inspired by Galatians 6:7: “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” The apostle Paul isn’t scolding you. He’s naming a law that is as real as gravity, a law that governs habits, words, relationships, and hidden thoughts alike.
So, how do you apply this law in your daily life? You stop pretending that your choices are small. Every conversation you have, every habit you keep, every private thought you nurture — each one of these is a seed. Think about the mustard seed for a moment. Mustard seeds are famously tiny, typically measuring 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter. Just one mustard seed can grow into a massive, towering plant reaching around 8–12 feet in height (around 2.5–3.5 meters). In other words, the choices you make (the seeds you sow) have huge outcomes.
Now ask yourself: “What’s actually growing in my life today?” The good news is that you don’t need to panic over past seasons. God asks you to surrender them to Him, and let His grace till the soil.
Today, plant on purpose. Choose one seed — e.g., patience, honesty, generosity — and put it in the ground deliberately. Watch what rises.
May the song “Do Not Be Deceived” walk with you through that process. Go ahead and press play. As the lyrics say: “Now I choose to live from a truth that never dies.”
