Falling in Love With the God Who Never Leaves 

Somebody told you about a love you never knew existed. That’s how this song starts, and that’s how Grace usually starts — as a rumor before it becomes real. Thoughts and Notions made this anniversary edition of “My Love Song” about that exact moment: the moment you realize that Someone has been loving you the whole time, long before you noticed. “Somebody told me about you,” the song opens, “how you love us with such amazing grace.” Grace doesn’t wait for you to earn it. It just shows up. 

Here’s what makes this love different. The lyrics say, Thoughts and Notions - My Love Song - 20th Anniversary Album Edition“You even offered Your life for me.” That’s sacrifice, and we read about this in Romans 5:8: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. Read that again. Not after you cleaned up. Not once you earned it. He shows His love while you were still a mess. 

So what do you do with a Love like that? You don’t just admire it — you fall into it. The song calls it falling in love “in the comfort of your arms.” May that be your invitation today, to stop treating God’s love like background noise and start responding to it. Talk to God. Thank Him. Let the patience He has for you change how you are patient with others. 

Your spirit doesn’t have to stay in shambles. Somebody already told you the truth. Now let it sink in. “I am falling in love with you.”

Background:

My Love Song is an upbeat song that hopefully wishes to express a sincere love for God and the people that we love in our life. The song talks about a certain moment in our life when we get to know someone whom we never even thought existed. Now this someone turns out to be a person who is capable of loving us unconditionally. And upon experiencing the kind of love that we have never felt before, we are slowly being lured to this kind of love. Slowly falling in love with this person. There is no other kind of love in the world that is capable of surpassing God's Love. The song teaches us to fall in love with God for the simple reason that he is there giving his love to us unconditionally. The original version of this song was more guitar driven, this new version however, we traded the jangly guitars to make it a more keyboard driven track.

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity
