"Teach the Truth" by whispering HOPE: Why Love Is the Only Way Truth Travels


Truth spoken in love changes everything. 

Water buried under desert sand does nobody any good. It just sits there, hidden, while the ground above cracks and the land withers. “Teach the Truth” by whispering HOPE opens with that picture — a spring “running clear beneath the sand,” present but doesn’t help the thirsty. The song’s backstory points out that truth was never meant to sit still. Just like water, truth flows; it clears up confusion, revives what’s gone dry, and it reaches places that desperately need the refreshment and direction that truth provides. 

whispering HOPE - Teach the TruthThe chorus sums up the do’s and don’ts (best practices) when sharing the truth. “Teach the truth in love, like a river running free.” And the don’ts: “Not with anger, not with pride, not to prove that we are right.” Truth without love turns into a weapon. Love without truth turns into empty comfort. When you combine truth and love, you get a river — something that actually moves and changes the ground (hearts) it touches. 

Ephesians 4:15 says it this way: “speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” Growth happens there, where honesty and kindness meet. When you skip the truth, people stay comfortable but end up stuck. When you skip the love, people run away from you before your words ever get a chance to land. So, where do you need to speak up this week — not to win an argument, but to help someone heal? Who in your life is standing on dry ground, waiting for someone to stop hiding what they know? 

Give this song a listen. May the song spark a time of self-reflection and help you to shape the way you share truth. “Let pure water run again, starting first in me.”

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity
