"Welcome To Your Life" by Howard Gripp: A Fresh Start, Every Morning


What would change if today felt brand new? 

Howard Gripp asked himself that same question on a beach, watching waves erase impressions in the sand, making the beach look as new again. He wasn’t planning to write a song. He was just sitting there, reflecting on his own journey, and recalling the day he realized he could leave his past behind and start fresh. That memory became the key message of this song: “every day is an opportunity for a new beginning.”

It comes from stillness. “See your past, like footprints in the sand // Slowly fade as the tide rolls in.” Footprints don’t argue with the tide; they can’t, they’re powerless. They just vanish, one wave at a time. 

Psalm 103:12 says the same thing, only louder, and puts it this way: “as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” Not buried. Not managed. Removed. 

So back to the question — what would change if today felt brand new? Maybe you’d stop bracing yourself for the same old failure. Maybe you’d speak to yourself like someone who is starting over instead of someone who is still paying off yesterday. That shift doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a decision that requires surrender, surrender to God, a decision that is repeated daily. 

In your quiet time today, pick one thing, one memory that you keep on replaying like it’s still relevant. Name it in your prayer, and then let it go, just like sand lets go of a footprint when the water comes in. 

Play “Welcome To Your Life” next time that old weight tries to resurface. May the chorus remind you: “Welcome to your life // Everything here’s fine // When the road gets rough // He’s right there by your side.”

Background:

"Welcome To Your Life" came to me while sitting on a beach, looking out over the ocean and reflecting on my own journey. It took me back to the day everything changed and I realized I could leave my past behind and start fresh. My hope is that this song encourages people to believe that every day is an opportunity for a new beginning.
