Have you ever looked at life as "riding the waves," and the joy and freedom that riding the waves brings the surf-rider? Rorie released a new song called "Surf," a song inspired by a quote from Oswald Chambers in one of his devotionals. Rorie took a powerful idea of riding the waves of life's challenges and turned it into this beautiful declaration of faith.
Quoting Oswald Chambers: "The surf that distresses the ordinary swimmer produces in the surf-rider the super joy of going clean through it. Apply that to our own circumstances, these very things - tribulation, distress, persecution, produce in us the super joy; they are not things to fight. We are more than conquerors through Him in all these things, not in spite of them, but in the midst of them."
Rorie took the quote and turned it into a song that reminds us that we can triumph over every challenge in life. All it takes is to change your perspective and place unconditional trust in God that He will safely lead you forward. As a result, these challenges will become opportunities for "super joy"!
Listen to how Rorie captures this tension in the lyrics: "See it looming in the distance, know that I could never swim it on my own." Some of those waves on our paths may seem pretty daunting, but Rorie points us to Jesus, "With You I ride the waves, pressure turns to grace." He is the ultimate guide and example, "You walked on water, changed my life." His presence changes those overwhelming 'waves' into something beautiful.
You too can be a surf-rider when you accept God as your guide. With God you'll be able to ride life's storms with confidence. God's strength and lead are more than enough for you to keep going… if you follow His lead.
