"Thank You, Jesus" by Risen Sons: Chains Broken, Freedom Found


Risen Sons' "Thank You, Jesus" is a song about how God can redeem us from our brokenness, how He gives us a new purpose, and how we can contribute to spreading His light to others. Risen Sons start the song by acknowledging how brokenness causes sleepless nights: "I remember the nights I couldn't find rest, chasing shadows with an empty chest." You've most likely experienced times of brokenness in your life. God teaches us that brokenness isn't our end state… There is light on the horizon! God offers each one of us a way forward. 

Risen Sons - Thank You, JesusWhen His mercy steps in, everything changes. "Mercy found me, grace called my name, now I'm alive and I'll never be the same."We can't explain the how and why; it's beyond anything we can comprehend, but we know that grace rewrites our stories!

This song reminds us that when we surrender our past at the cross, chains break and freedom emerges. Note the use of the word "surrender". This is more than placing our past before God; it is giving it all up, not trying to hang onto the past, and unconditionally accepting what comes next. It's about no longer being defined by scars and wasted time, and becoming carriers of God's light in this broken world. The refrain of the song, "Thank You, Jesus, I am not the same" is an invitation to embrace this transformed identity.

Take a moment to reflect on your own life, your "journey" to God. Where has God's grace intervened? How did His grace change your life? 

May this song deepen your gratitude and help you appreciate all God has changed in your life. May this song encourage you to take a moment to genuinely worship God and totally surrender to His grace.

"Your Love" by Kevin Winebarger - When Mercy Becomes Your Identity

Kevin Winebarger teamed up with Joshua Frerichs and Benji Cowart to create this beautiful song. "Your Love" tackles that discouraging voice we all hear from time to time, the one that whispers that we're not enough and that we are defined by our past. "Once a liar, always a liar," and all kinds of variations along this same line of thought. This song isn't about wallowing in shame.
