"Fire Fire Burning Bright" by Unconsumed: Faith forged by fire

What if refining fire was a gift, not a threat?

(by Jasper Tan) “Fire Fire Burning Bright” by Unconsumed is a CCM Rock worship-style track that goes into themes of spiritual renewal, guidance, and devotion. The song maintains a steady progressing arrangement that eventually soars to enhance the worship experience intended for internal transformation and spiritual awakening.

Unconsumed - Fire Fire Burning BrightThe song utilizes the recurring motif of “fire” that acts as a metaphor for God’s presence. Throughout the song (0:12, 0:34, 2:02), the lyrics express our desire for this “fire” to bring “hope” and “light,” asking for God to light the way for us as we renew our relationship with him. The song also reminds us of our need for purification and transformation, with the lyrics explicitly asking God to “burn away our sin and shame” (2:08) and “purify our hearts like gold” (2:13). This is inspired by the biblical concept of having our faith tested through trials. Ensuring that the believers remain “standing firm like saints of old” (2:18–2:20). Malachi 3:3 (ESV) — “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi.”

But these trials are not won on our own accord, but as the refrain says, “Help us God to follow you” (0:29, 3:48, 4:09), we are reminded of our faithfulness, and asking for God’s guidance is what will eventually bring us to triumph over these trials.

While the song feels personal, it also frequently shifts to invite us for a communal worship and praise, using phrases like “As we gather in your name” (0:57, 2:24). This clearly shows that our collective act of seeking “your face” (1:01, 1:23) and calling upon “your grace in this place” (1:04–1:12) is an invitation for God make his presence felt as we enjoin others to worship him. “Reignite a faith that’s true. Help us God to follow you.”

(Related scripture: Malachi 3:3; 1 Peter 1:7; Zechariah 13:9)

Have you already heard Josh Grove's new song, "Holy Flame"? It's an upbeat worship song written and performed by Josh, and what makes this release even more intriguing is that Josh is a super talented 15-year-old singer-songwriter. The song is all about the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and celebrates God's constant goodness and grace.
