New purpose doesn’t ask permission — it arrives.
You’ve tried to fix yourself before, we all have. Maybe you tried to white-knuckle your way out of a bad habit or promised yourself (again) that this time it would be different. Shoshan Dunamis knows that feeling. In the backstory behind her new song “Have a Sense”, she describes trying to break free on her own — and failing. Then Jesus stepped into her life. Not as an idea. His presence came into her life. She sings: “I have tried to stop it, it didn’t work real good for me. You came into my life, took all of my sin, and really helped me.” Something changed in her life that she couldn’t have done on her own… none of us can.
That’s the mystery inside this song. Dunamis calls it the “tension between the old and the new”, and she has done a beautiful job of also capturing that tension in the melody itself. In the chorus, Shoshan sings: “It’s like I have a sense now, always all the time, since you’re in my life.” Not a one-time peak, but a constant awareness.
Scripture describes this same change. Paul writes about it in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Did you notice what this verse doesn’t say? It doesn’t say that you first need to try harder to become new. It says that “the old has already passed away”. New life isn’t a project you complete — it’s a gift you receive, His gift to you. So where are you still gripping the wheel today? What are you trying to fix yourself that has got you so exhausted, when in reality only His grace can fix it?
Start by letting go of that one thing, yes, right now… don’t delay. Hand it over to God instead of trying to manage it yourself. Ask yourself what changes when you stop carrying it alone.
Give “Have a Sense” by Shoshan Dunamis a listen. Let the chorus remind you what it feels like to have that sense — always, all the time. As Dunamis sings: “With just one word, You set me free.”

Background:
Have a Sense' is one of my favourite songs. I wrote it more than five years ago and it has been stuck in my head ever since.
It's about the moment when Jesus enters a person's life. It’s a life-changing moment that’s almost impossible to describe in words: the incomprehensible grace you experience; a new purpose in life; a fresh start. Things suddenly fall into place on their own — things you couldn't break free from alone.
Through the melody, I tried to capture the tension between the old and the new, and the sense of a fresh start in the instrumental. There’s so much to discover in this rhythm, just as there is in life with Jesus. A great diversity that comes together to form an even greater whole.
I love life. And I’ve only come to love it since He became part of my life. For me, life with Jesus means variety, abundance, surprises, freedom, miracles and joy. I love sharing all of this with the world.
