What is your house built on?
We all face bad news at some point or other in life. It could be a diagnosis, a layoff, a broken relationship — the question isn’t whether hard news will come, but how you’ll respond when it happens. Young Presley wrestled with that question while he was writing his song “Psalm 112 (I’m Confident)”. The song is part of a Psalms series, coming from a simple vision: turn scripture into music that people will actually listen to. These songs are not intended as a substitute for reading the Bible, but an invitation to further read and explore the Bible. The chorus captures the key message of Psalm 112: “I do not fear bad news, I’m confident, trust in the Lord who cares to be my confidence.” That’s not the denial of bad news. It’s a decision to place your confidence and trust in God.
Look at what David wrote centuries ago in Psalm 112:7–8: “He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid” (ESV). There’s no promise that bad news won’t come. The promise that David shares is about what happens inside you when it does. A steady heart doesn’t mean that nothing will shake you. It means that something stronger (God) holds you up.
So where’s your foundation right now? If today’s headlines, your inbox, or your test results could knock you off balance, then that deserves further (prayerful) examining. Trust isn’t something you feel once and keep forever — it’s something you choose again and again each morning, especially during those most challenging mornings. Build your confidence on something that outlasts your circumstances. Praise before the outcome, not just after it.
Let this song play in the background of your week. May its message sink in. “I built my house on solid ground with Jesus, my King.”

Background:
The song is apart of my psalms series where I turn psalms into modern songs with the hope to help others feel seen, loved and known like Jesus sees them and to provide another outlet for others to receive Gods words. I love Gods word and I love how he uses music as another form of worship so he gave me this vision to be the one to prepare the way for others to receive his word through music. Not to replace the Bible but to provide another outlet for others to visit the word after listening to the songs.
Psalms 112 is based on verses 1-3 & 7-8. The chorus touches on “They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.” - Psalms 112:7-8 NLT. Which is the entire hope of the song to encourage others to be confident in God for he is our confidence.
Then the verse is centered on “Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever.” - Psalms 112:1-3 NLT. As a reminder that those who fear the Lord are joyful and he blesses us from generations to generations forever and ever.
This song also has my good friend Christian McKinney who based his verse on “Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.” Psalms 112:4 NLT. As we have a firm foundation on our God who lights our way through the darkness. It is also produced by Nitro X who is a very talented producer and helped bring this vision to life by creating a pop, funk & EDM sound through the production.
