"Give Me a Witness" by Kayla Spurlock: Trading Shifting Sand for Solid Rock


Who do you trust when temptation whispers?

“Give Me a Witness” by Kayla Spurlock is “a song about choosing God over a boy (or any other tempting trial).” Most of us know those crossroads. The person, the habit, the shortcut. It looks like love, and it feels like relief. 

Kayla Spurlock - Give Me a WitnessAs we hear in the song, Kayla doesn’t pretend that she always chose well. She sings of a spirit that “walked a wasted place,” and of “pushing in the dark” while making life so hard. This is followed by her cry: “Please, God, will You come to get me?” Have you prayed that prayer? The good news is that He answers your prayers (His way and His timing)! 

Kayla calls the old ground, the shifting sand, “counterfeit”, and leaves it behind. Now she walks on stone, and “light fills my bones.” That scene echoes what Jesus said in Matthew 7:24: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” 

Sand looks fine until the storm arrives. Moving from sand to stone may require that you lay down your will, your plans, maybe even relationships or friendships that pull you away from God. Kayla calls this a sacrifice at “the feet of Christ,” and the surprise / blessing is what follows: strength, courage, and a new story. 

So look at your own footing today. What are you standing on? Sand or stone? Name one thing that should be solid but keeps shifting, and hand it to God in prayer today. Then take one small step forward to what He has already shown you is true and aligns with His plan for you. 

You don’t have to fight alone. He is only a whispering prayer away. Give “Give Me a Witness” a listen, and let it help you to surrender your will to Him. “I am a witness, my heart belongs to You.”

"If Jesus Danced" by Cameron Pruitt: Making Room for Laughter in Your Walk with God

Does your faith leave room for laughter? Can you imagine Jesus kicking off His sandals, dancing to a rhythm only He can hear? Strange thought? "King, Lamb, Lion" by Ben Jero & Graham Guy: When the World Runs Dry

What happens when the world just isn’t enough?  In early 2025, Graham Guy was reading Revelation chapter 4. The picture of heaven gathered around the throne — declaring God holy and worthy of praise — planted the seed for this song.
