"Great Is Thy Faithfulness" by Gethsemane Instrumental: Finding Steady Ground in the Storm


God’s mercies are new every morning — do you notice?

“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” by Gethsemane Instrumental is one of the tracks in John Long’s upcoming instrumental project. Gethsemane Instrumental is a space for prayer, a quiet room where listeners can sit with Jesus without distraction. Hardships visited John more than once. He also went through Ministry seasons that tested him in ways that could have hollowed him out. But something kept pulling John back to the same conviction: “He is faithful.” Not faithful when convenient. Not faithful in the easy seasons only. Faithful “through every storm,” standing “unmoved and unwavering” while everything around him shifted.

Gethsemane Instrumental - Great Is Thy Faithfulness“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is the first single off John’s upcoming Hymns Devotional Vol. 2 project. This song has been a staple song for him throughout his entire walk with Jesus. 

That kind of steadiness isn’t new. Thomas Chisholm penned the original song in 1923, sitting in Baldwin City, Kansas, worn down by frail health and the slow grind of ordinary struggle. Thomas wasn’t chasing inspiration. He was reflecting on a pattern he’d lived: God’s provision, showing up again and again, season after season. His source text was Lamentations 3:22–23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” New every morning. Not recycled. Not rationed. Fresh mercy, delivered daily, whether you feel ready for it or not.

So what can this do for you today? Stop waiting to feel strong enough before you trust Him. Bring your exhaustion, your grief, your stalled plans — bring all of it into each morning’s fresh mercy. Ask yourself: what storm are you standing in right now that only His steadiness can meet? May that question sit with you as you go about your day.

Give this instrumental cover of “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” a listen, and allow the melody to touch your heart in ways that words sometimes can’t. Sit in the quiet. Let His faithfulness meet you there.

Background:

I created Gethsemane Instrumental as a project to prayerfully produce music that helps create a peaceful atmosphere for times of prayer as well as to reflect the character of Jesus. Great Is Thy Faithfulness is the first single off the Hymns Devotional Vol. 2 project. Great Is Thy Faithfulness has been a staple song for me throughout my entire walk with Jesus. I have endured many hardships, from losing loved ones to walking through seasons of ministry struggles. I have always come back to that truth. He is faithful. Through every storm, He stands, unmoved and unwavering. I would not be where I am today without the understanding of His great faithfulness. I am excited for the rest of these hymns to be released this year, leading into my next album, which will be a collection of al completely original compositions aimed at capturing what Jesus went through during Holy Week. A team of pastors, scholars, and theologians and I are working together to pinpoint historical moments of holy week to score original compositions that will embrace the depth of what Jesus endured. The Lord has been pressing this project on my heart daily. More music to come!

"I Love to Praise Your Name" by Chrystal: Worship That Survives the Storm

A declaration of consistent devotion and faithfulness to God (by Jasper Tan) Chrystal Williams-Alberty’s “I Love to Praise Your Name” is a beautiful and heartfelt contemporary praise and worship song. "I'm Still Going to Praise You" by Die Taube: Choosing Praise in the Waiting

Can worship survive a season without answers?  Some seasons don’t resolve on schedule. “I’m Still Going to Praise You” by Die Taube ( ‘the dove’ ) was born from one of those seasons — infertility sitting alongside a father’s cancer diagnosis, disappointment stacking on disappointment. The song is part of an upcoming album, Pilgrimage, releasing one song per month until December. The album is a crossing, not a recovery, not getting back to who one was but coming through changed. The opening line of the song sets the whole tone: “Thank You has no seasons, worship does not wait.” God’s worthiness does not depend on our circumstances. Even when circumstances stay unresolved, we decide to look beyond our circumstances to praise and worship Him.  Notice what the second verse admits. “When I feel like I’ve got nothing and other times so much”  — our praises aren’t conditional on constant victory.
