"HIGHER" by DVNY: When Your Career Becomes an Idol


What happens when success becomes your idol?

DVNY was a career musician who spent years chasing the next festival, the next club, the next milestone. The applause kept coming, but something inside him kept fading. He shares: “I realized my career had become an idol and I felt further from God than ever.” The closer he got to the top, the further he drifted from God. The song “HIGHER” is what surrender sounds like when you finally stop climbing.

DVNY - HIGHERThe song opens in a familiar place: “In the darkness, You’re my light.” Our journeys may differ, but experiencing His light in our darkness is a memory many of us share. DVNY describes how the walls were closing in, ash and dust settling around him, and then a voice breaking through the noise: “I can hear your voice within.” Notice what happens next. DVNY doesn’t fight harder, he decides to trust God. “That you’re here with deepest peace, I can feel my breath release.”

The apostle Paul wrote about that same release. Writing from prison, stripped of status, he said, “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). Everything he’d built his identity on, his position, achievement, and reputation, he calls it all rubbish compared to actually knowing God.

Where was your ladder leaning against the wrong wall? Maybe it’s a title, a platform, a number on a screen. Now ask yourself honestly: “What are you climbing toward and why?” Set it down and rethink this. Not because ambition is wrong… It’s because nothing that you chase will ever hold you the same way that God does. Let Him become the center of your life again, and not the reward at the finish line.

Give “HIGHER” a listen. May the lyrics of this song become your own prayer of surrender. “Your love is enough.”

"HIGHER is the first release in my new Christian EDM chapter. It’s about surrendering my career to God and choosing purpose over chasing the next milestone.

HIGHER is about surrendering the things I was chasing and putting God back at the center of my life. After years of pursuing success in music, playing clubs and festivals, and constantly looking for the next milestone, I realized my career had become an idol and I felt further from God than ever.

Sonically, HIGHER blends worship-inspired lyrics with melodic, progressive electronic production, bringing the emotion of worship into the energy of EDM. It’s the first release in this new chapter of my artist project.

"Stand By Me" by Daniel Aranda: Finding Steadiness in Life's Storms

Who’s standing with you in the storm? “Stand By Me” by Daniel Aranda is an amazing rendition of a hymn written by Charles Albert Tindley in 1905. Tindley was the son of a former slave, a man who knew what it meant to need help that wasn’t guaranteed. He didn’t write from comfort. He wrote from the middle of a fight, and that’s exactly why the song is still so relevant and cherished by many today. Daniel Aranda’s recording brings gospel legends Terry Blackwood and Charlie McCoy into that same lineage, carrying Tindley’s plea forward into a new generation.  The lyrics move through life’s troubles, one verse at a time. “When the storms of life are raging, stand by me”  — that’s not poetic exaggeration. Tindley’s first verse is about a ship tossed on open water, powerless against the waves. "Paper Lantern Heart" by MK Green: When God Lights a Fire You Can't Contain

What happens when God lights a fire in you?  Some fires refuse to stay hidden. MK Green wrote “Paper Lantern Heart” around that exact truth, inspired by Jeremiah 20:9, where the prophet admits that he tried to stop preaching but simply couldn’t. The Word burned inside him “like a fire shut up in my bones.” Green’s lyrics echo that same struggle: “Behind the bones inside my chest there burns a paper heart.” Cold turns to burning. Silence turns to song. “I was cold as stone until You lit a spark,” the chorus declares, and something about that image sticks with you long after the music fades.  Here’s the question worth pondering: What do you do when God ignites something in you that won’t stay quiet?  Jeremiah tried holding it in, and that exhausted him. “There is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot” (Jeremiah 20:9).
