"Living Sacrifice" by Abayomi Adewuyi: Born on a Staircase, Written for the Altar


What does it mean to give God everything? 

A staircase doesn’t seem like sacred ground. But that’s exactly the place where “Living Sacrifice” by Abayomi Adewuyi was born — a quiet pause, a nudge from the Holy Spirit, and words that turned into worship. Abayomi didn’t set out to write an anthem. He simply stopped long enough to listen.

The song shares an answer. “All that I have, they come from You // All that I am, grace has bestowed.” The fact is that nothing we hold is truly ours. Every talent, every breath, every second chance, it all traces back to His grace. 

That’s the truth behind the song’s boldest declaration: “I’m a living sacrifice unto You Lord.” This isn’t a one-time offering. It isn’t a Sunday performance. This is about daily and ongoing surrender. 

You can read about this in Romans 12:1: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” 

Why does Paul call this ‘your spiritual worship’? Because spiritual worship was never limited to songs and sanctuaries. It’s how you spend your afternoons. It’s the patience you show a coworker who tests your last nerve. It’s choosing integrity when nobody’s watching. It’s about laying aside our own desires each day to follow Him, putting all our energy and resources at His disposal, and trusting Him to guide us. We do this out of gratitude that our sins have been forgiven. 

Ask yourself: Where am I holding back? Maybe it’s your time, still hoarded for yourself. Maybe it’s a habit you know doesn’t honor God. Whatever it is, bring it to the altar today. 

You don’t need a staircase moment to get started. Offer God what you already have — your schedule, your gifts, your ordinary day. Let your life become the offering. 

Give this song a listen and let it help you shape your prayer today. “I give myself to You as a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto You.”
