What do you do when the wall looks unbreakable?
“Nothing Can Stand” by Joshua Melrose is inspired by Biblical stories of Jericho, the city with walls too high to climb, and the showdown between David and a giant named Goliath, a warrior who seemed too strong to fight. Joshua Melrose leads us into these two scenes with a marching, victorious feel. “Walls of Jericho come crashing down,” the opening verse declares, “you tried to stop us, but we won’t stop now.” In the next verse, a towering champion enters the scene, armored in bronze, undefeated in battle — yet David isn’t shaken. “Don’t you know for us our God has got a plan,” Joshua sings, and that’s the whole point of the song in one breath.
The apostle Paul asks a question in Romans that leans on this same confidence: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). That question isn’t rhetorical comfort — it’s a challenge that applies to all of us. What’s the ‘Goliath’ in your life that currently feels immovable? Is it a diagnosis, a broken relationship, a debt that won’t budge? Jericho’s walls didn’t fall because Israel found a clever siege tactic. The walls fell because God said they would. Goliath didn’t lose to superior weaponry — he lost to a shepherd boy who trusted God.
So, what can you take away from this song? Your circumstances don’t get the final word. Bring your ‘walls’ to God today instead of trying to scale them alone. Speak His plans over your situation the way Joshua sings them over his. Whatever looks unbeatable right now is already accounted for in a bigger plan than yours.
Give this song a listen and let the march carry you forward. As the lyrics put it: “Our God will have His way.”
