"Universe Dreams" by Mark T. Speakman: The Poem God Wrote Before Time


Can God’s love outshine our need for approval?

A cardiologist for four decades, Mark T. Speakman knows what it means to hold a fragile heart. Something changed when his own heart broke under the weight of depression. Faith stopped being background noise and became his lifeline. “Universe Dreams” was born during that season, a song based on a bold idea: Your life is a poem that God wrote before time began.

Mark describes a world that is mostly chasing the wrong things. “Beautiful people, faces and graces, my envy screams for tradin’ places.” We scroll past those “champagne days” and curated lives, wishing that we were someone else. But the lyric looks below the surface to see that: “inside we’re still bleedin’.” Everyone is. The influencers, the icons we build like “gods that we shape from tinsel town stars,” they’re also bleeding. No amount of applause is able to fix that.

But that doesn’t have to be the end of your story. Mark sings: “But I still hear Him pleading.” God doesn’t shout over your noise. He pleads, patiently, from underneath it. This is Ephesians 2:10: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” You’re not an accident. Not a rough draft. You are a workmanship, purposefully shaped for good works.

What will change when you start believing this about yourself? You stop measuring your worth against a highlight reel. You stop performing for people who are just as unsteady as you. There is more, because God has a plan for you. So, start by naming one thing about your story that only you could tell. That’s not vanity. That’s God’s poem showing itself. You are known and named by God, who yearns for each of us to be gripped and galvanized by His love.

Let the song play while you sit with that thought. “But in every human heart the Universe dreams.”

Background:

After more than four decades of healing hearts as a cardiologist, Mark T. Speakman continues his musical mission of healing hearts in a different way. The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter has just released his new single, "Universe Dreams," today, August 14, a sweeping pop-rock anthem rooted in Christian faith that explores identity, purpose, and God's enduring love.

Born and raised in England, Speakman spent his life balancing two callings: medicine and music. While he pursued a distinguished career as a cardiologist, songwriting remained a constant creative force. Following a deeply personal journey through depression, his faith took on renewed meaning, transforming his music into an expression of hope for those navigating life's darkest seasons.

"I have a story to tell. I didn't have one before, and I have a testimony," says Speakman. "I want to reach people who are suffering or in discomfort with music and lyrics that bring comfort, solace, and hope."

With "Universe Dreams," Speakman builds upon that mission. Inspired by Ephesians 2:10, the song reminds listeners that every life has been intentionally designed and that each individual is deeply known and loved by God. Wrapped in sophisticated arrangements, soaring melodies, and rich vocal harmonies reminiscent of the golden era of 1970s and 1980s FM radio, the single reflects Speakman's signature blend of intricate musicianship and heartfelt storytelling.

To think of yourself as a poem from God, his workmanship may seem audacious, but that is precisely what the apostle Paul states in his letter to the Ephesians (chapter 2 verse 10). Your heavenly Father wrote a poem about your life before eternity began. He purposed a destiny for you to step into. This constitutes the theological basis for my song "Universe Dreams".

As humans, we tend to over-ascribe value to the beautiful gifted anointed few. In reality, our lives are each uniquely scripted events; we are known and named by a God who yearns for us to be gripped and galvanized by His love. This is how the Universe Dreams. The verses typify our efforts to locate God and meaning. As we bleed, so He pleads. Innumerable "champagne days," power grabs, or the idols we fashion will never satisfy. These only accentuate our acute need to know this passionate God.

Indeed He speaks, and he weeps through us here on earth. And He wants our focus to be right - that God loves his children and our star-lives are the dreams of the Universe.

When did you last stop and remember who God is? Life moves fast, doesn’t it? Bills pile up, seasons shift, and our attention drifts toward whatever crisis is loudest that day. "Set Free" by Kristin Ambuhl: Naming Your Real Enemy

What battle are you really fighting today?   Some enemies wear a smile. Kristin Ambuhl calls this out in her song “Set Free”. The song calls these enemies a “favorite shadow” who’s “throwin’ words like daggers” while “hiding behind your laughter.” This is much more than a person who is being difficult. Kristin wrote this song about the daily spiritual battles we face as believers — battles found in arrogant people, dark influences, and forces that work to pull us away from who God made us to be.
