Can you rest while everything around you feels uncertain? Jerovia recorded “Shepherd Forever” live in the woods. There were no studio walls and controlled conditions to create a perfect sound, just an honest resolve to let go and let God.  The song title, “Shepherd Forever”, and the song outro take our thoughts to a scene with sheep grazing in an open field. The sheep don’t have any armor, and neither do they have a plan. Still, they rest because the Shepherd is watching over them.  Think about that scene and ask yourself, when was the last time that you rested like that? Most of us carry our worries around with us, worries that pop up in every quiet moment we have… sometimes screaming for attention while we try to focus on more important activities. We even tend to grip those worries tighter as they grow heavier. This song invites us to loosen our grip, open our hands, and surrender them to the Lord.  Listen to the promise at the heart of this song: “Surely Your goodness...

Who do you trust when temptation whispers? “Give Me a Witness” by Kayla Spurlock is “a song about choosing God over a boy (or any other tempting trial).” Most of us know those crossroads. The person, the habit, the shortcut. It looks like love, and it feels like relief.  As we hear in the song, Kayla doesn’t pretend that she always chose well. She sings of a spirit that “walked a wasted place,” and of “pushing in the dark” while making life so hard. This is followed by her cry: “Please, God, will You come to get me?” Have you prayed that prayer? The good news is that He answers your prayers (His way and His timing)!  Kayla calls the old ground, the shifting sand, “counterfeit”, and leaves it behind. Now she walks on stone, and “light fills my bones.” That scene echoes what Jesus said in Matthew 7:24: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”   Sand looks fine until the storm arrives. Moving fr...

What if worship doesn’t require having answers? Storm clouds hide the stars. The road stretches on with no map and no end in sight. That’s the world Zach Garrett describes in the opening lines of “Hallelujah Anyway,” and if you’ve walked through a season of loss or confusion, you already recognize the setting. Zach wrote this song from inside real darkness, in his case, a stretch of loss, hurt, and unanswered questions that didn’t resolve on his timeline. Zach’s message is that we don’t need to wait for clarity before we choose to worship. Like Zach, we may need to make that choice daily, sometimes hourly, possibly even through gritted teeth. The bridge describes a common misconception: “I used to think that faith meant having all the answers, that doubt was just a sign I wasn’t strong enough to stand.” How many of us carry that same lie? We assume that real faith looks certain, steady, unshaken. We get confused when it isn’t! Zach flips the definition of faith: “Maybe trusting You me...

What does grace really cost you?  Jesus never hid the price tag. He asked His followers to leave everything, to count their gains as loss, “whatever the cost, or how heavy the cross.” “Costly Grace” by Red Letter Society was created around that tension, a grace that’s free to receive but expensive to live out. The chorus pleads, “Lord, make me desperate to ABIDE in You.” In other words, following Jesus through pain requires more than just good intentions. It requires desperation.  Why would anyone choose desperation over comfort? Because comfort doesn’t sanctify us. The second verse names the thorn that may not be removed, and a choice to praise anyway: “yet still I will praise, as you sanctify.” That’s not denial. That’s trust built through weakness, because “when I am weak, your Spirit is strong.”   The apostle Paul understood this. We read in Philippians 3:8, “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Notice the wo...

What do you do when the ground won’t hold? The track “Lift Your Voice” by Rick Rath was born while standing at an overlook in Oberwesel, a small town on the Rhine River in Germany. Rick wanted to capture the same feeling he gets from the old hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King” , with that swelling and “can’t-help-but-sing” sense of praise.  The song opens honestly: “When the ground beneath me doesn’t hold, when the truth feels harder than I’m told.” That’s not a small admission. Most of us will know how it feels to walk with “a restless heart, looking for a spark in the dark.” Rick doesn’t stay there. He directs our focus upward: “Hands up to the open sky, we were born to reach higher.” That line summarizes the key takeaway of the song. Psalm 150:6 backs this up: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Everything. Not just the confident. Not just the people who have it all figured out. Everyone who’s still breathing has a reason and a right to praise the Lord. Wh...

Still carrying a broken heart alone?  “Heal the Brokenhearted (Be Still Version)” by For The Kingdom is a quieter piano-and-strings take on the original song that was released in July. The song is about a type of pain that manages to hide inside us quite well. It shows up in quiet moments, like when we’re driving home, lying awake, or sitting in a room that suddenly feels too quiet. This reimagined version matches that quiet. This arrangement with Jennifer Mills is quieter, more reverent, and intentionally leaves space for the lyric and message of healing, rest, and hope in Christ. “You look to heal your heart, but don’t know where to start,” Jennifer sings. Sound familiar? At times your path may feel dark, tangled, uncertain, but you shouldn’t forget, “You’re not lost or forsaken.” Where does that certainty come from? Isaiah 61:1says: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me… he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.” Centuries later, Jesus ...

What was truly lost when sin entered Eden? The song “SIN” by Nuee starts by taking us back to the beginning of mankind on Earth, with two people walking in the garden of Eden beside their Father, nothing between them. “His voice in the cool of the day” was fellowship, plain and close. Then a whisper found its way into the quiet. Doubt crept in, and suddenly “love felt a million miles away.” Nuee didn’t write a song about breaking a rule, it’s about losing a relationship. Generations followed, and none of them could fix what broke. Humanity kept “searching for mercy,” kept “building our own way,” and Nuee is honest about the result: “nothing was ever enough.” Sound familiar? Maybe you’ve tried your own version of that — working harder, being better, hoping distance from God might close on its own. It never does. Effort can’t repair what only grace can heal. Then everything changes. “Then You came,” the song declares, and the whole story turns. Paul describes the same change in Rom...
