"Gravity Of Grace" by Carli Lessing: The Pull You Can't Outrun


Can His grace really pull you back when you’ve drifted this far? 

Gravity never asks permission. Drop something, anything, and it falls back to earth without effort or argument. Carli Lessing compares gravity with the way that grace works. You don’t fight your way back into God’s reach. He pulls you there. 

Carli Lessing - Gravity Of GraceThe lyrics open with a familiar confession: “I don’t need to run away, hiding from the truth.” Running doesn’t hide anything from God anyway. He “sees every last mistake and selfish path I choose,” and despite that, He stays put. Carli admits she still catches herself trying to earn what God already gave away. That instinct runs deep in all of us. We dress up our effort and call it faith, all while missing the actual gift that is sitting in front of us. 

Look at Ephesians 2:8–9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” 

Grace isn’t a result of our works. You may want to read Ephesians 2:8–9 again. Your striving never bought you a single inch closer to God’s love, because it was free and already yours before you took your first breath. So why do you need to keep performing for something that is already in your hands?

Decide today that you’ll stop hiding in the fallout from your shame. God isn’t waiting for you to clean up first; He’s waiting because He wants you close, mess and all. Let Him do what gravity does. Quit pretending you’ve got it together, and let the pull do the work it was always meant to do. 

May this song remind you that grace was never something to chase down — it’s already chasing you. “You pull me closer, keep me safe, in Your gravity of grace.”

Background:

God's grace is like gravity, just when we think we've drifted too far away He always pulls us back. I'm still learning about grace and sometimes I still think I need to earn it, but that's what's so special about it - God gives His love to us before we've done anything to earn it. I was reminded of this many times as I produced and recorded this song and I hope it blesses you today.

"Not Every Light Is Heaven" by whispering HOPE: How to Tell Real Light from Deception
